Another $20K Price Reduction on Our Favorite Church Unit: 1658 W. Superior in West Town

We’ve chattered about this 2-bedroom in the converted church at 1658 W. Superior in West Town several times.

See our October 2011 chatter here.

This unit was originally listed all the way back in June 2010.

It was recently reduced another $20,000 and has now been reduced $100,000 since 2010.

For most of you, this is your favorite Crib Chatter-featured church conversion.

It kept many of the church’s original features, including the glorious stained glass windows, the bow trusses and the exposed brick.

This unit has a 30-foot cathedral ceiling in the living area and one of the large stained glass windows.

The unit also has exposed steel bow trusses and exposed brick walls.

The kitchen has granite counter tops, maple cabinets and stainless steel appliances.

The master bedroom is lofted and on the second level.

The unit has central air, washer/dryer in the unit and not just 1 but 2 car parking which is included.

In the end, will this end up selling closer to the 2000 price?

Nicholas Colagiovanni at Baird & Warner still has the listing. See the pictures here.

  2. “man I sure dodged a bullet…”

Only to be clipped by a bus?

  3. I know it’s a loft and all, but the big duct running right across that gorgeous stained glass window looks absolutely hideous. You ‘d think they’d have figured out a better way to do that.

  4. so is the responsibility for the stained glass window on the unit or the HOA?

that is something i would want to know before even considering this unit.

  5. This is definitely the best of the church conversions lately but they all still have issues unfortunately. I love the stained glass window but the duct across it sucks and I’m disappointed the bottom half is gone. The kitchen has practically NO cabinet space either. The bar may give you more space, but by age 25 or 30, isn’t a bar in your living room a little overrated?

Once again, I like the concept but not keen on the execution.

  7. Don’t get me wrong, I like bars just not in the middle of my living room where I assume this one has to be since I don’t see a family room listed.

Also, I love how under “Interior” room sizes they have the terrace listed. Why not include the parking spaces too and the storage while you are at it!

  9. i’ve seen this place and it is decidedly not special. aside from the gorgeous window, nothing about the unit says “church conversion”. the kitchen is puny, the master bath is lofted with no enclosed closet or privacy and the bar-in-living-room is cheap looking and kind of lame for anyone over 30. all of that said, if you’re 22, male and hetero – and have $350k to to spend – this place is a dream.

  10. Regardless of the negatives, I love walking by here at night and seeing those windows lit up.

  11. Lent, people. Lent. Make sure to tithe!

I shudder at the thought of St. Michael’s going the way of this Dodo.

  14. there’s something that feels off about this unit. i don’t know what it is.. it’s like a pair of pants that are too short or an outfit that just doesn’t quite match. that bar has to go and the kitchen and bathrooms feel like they belong in a college apartment.
