CribChatter Is On Vacation Until June 28

Starting today, CribChatter will be on vacation for a week.

Those of you who have been around awhile know the drill.

That means there will be just one post a day (sorry!).

And I expect you all to play nice with each other while I’m gone so I don’t have to drag myself off the beach to delete any crazy rants. I WILL be monitoring what you say (ah- technology these days. No one can get off the grid completely any more.)

Otherwise, feel free to send me tips on the contact page or at my e-mail on properties you think are cool and interesting while I’m gone. I’ll get to your e-mails as soon as I get back.

We’ll resume our normal schedule on Thursday June 28.

Have a lovely week everyone!

Sabrina

  2. Maybe I”ll post a link to some summer home properties on Green Lake, or in the Chain of Lakes, or Lake Geneva, Lake Delavan, or even Eagle River.

  3. Sorry to get off topic so early in the morning – but is anyone familiar with the area around Taylor Park in Oak Park? Our offer on a house there was accepted. Really like the house, but it doesn’t seem like there’s too much around the area to walk to. Downtown is about 1.5 miles away. On a more relevant note, we’re living the knife-catcher dream. Two cribs, two rental condos (one barely breaking even, one making good money), one SFH and three mortgages.

  4. We live in the Taylor Park area. We moved in about a year ago. We really like our neighbors and the neighborhood. During the summer and fall, we walk to downtown, but we don’t have strollers to deal with. We also walk to the el or take the 3-minutes bus ride down Ridgeland. We would have preferred to be closer to downtown Oak Park, but have never regretted where we ended up.

  5. Taylor park is a great area to be although not the most walkable. Depending on which side of the park you are on, the farmer’s market is a great weekend walk.

I hope you enjoy the house and area!!

I like the idea of putting up some vacation properties HD. I’ll work on this when I get back. For the agents out there who have some properties in Harbor Country, Lake Geneva etc.- send them to me! I’m definitely up for putting some on the site.

No. I put up a post on the May sales data. Not super exciting, I know. But you all can discuss that for awhile.

I’d really like to see vacation home listings, preferably within weekend driving distance from chicago.

OT for logan folks, I’m astounded 2510 fairfield is under contract, more astounded than about the berenice house.

  9. I’m not. It looks like a solid home in one of the good parts of Logan Square. Better condition than the Wastenaw property we saw. What surprises you, the asking price?

  10. A*man – Congrats, I’ve lived in OP a few years now and love it, Taylor Park is a great spot. I’m a little over a mile from downtown OP myself and walk it every day pretty much to take the El – as someone else mentioned the Ridgeland bus will get you there quickly. You’re very close to Wonder Works, which your kids will probably like if they’re young.

  11. A* Man, I am right on Taylor Park. Great area. You will love it. I walk or bike downtown often. Ridgeland bus is very convenient to get to the El. Beautiful walks all over town. http://www.livehereoakpark.com

Yeah, price. Location is excellent. Did you look at the layout and room sizes? Master with sloped ceilings on 2nd, the other two bedrooms are 8 ft wide and on first floor.

Does it seem $125 or $150 nicer than washtenaw? I thought the fairfield list was at least $100 too high.

  13. “Did you look at the layout and room sizes? ” Actually I didn’t. I just glanced at the pretty pictures.

“Does it seem $125 or $150 nicer than washtenaw? I thought the fairfield list was at least $100 too high.”
These are not mutually exclusive. I feel the washtenaw property is too high in it’s current condition. So perhaps lower each by $100K.

I think the Washtenaw property will be bought up by someone who has a $500K budget and figures they are getting a deal.

Well, first, the fairfield owners don’t need to lower by $100, it’s under contract. That is what’s surprising to me. Also, do you actually think the fairfield place is worth $150 more than washtenaw?

  15. Possibly, maybe more like $100K. The Fairfield place has 3 full, updated (relative to the Washtenaw property) bathrooms. It also has a finished basement and laundry room. Heck, the washer/dryers are even better quality than Washtenaw property. And the Wastenaw property has a deck that while technically may now be up to code, it still screams don’t leave my child here unattended.

  16. “maybe more like $100K”

Yeah, I dunno. Seems like a lot when I gather the washtenaw baths are decent, not ancient, but not newish. And given the layout issues I mentioned for the fairfield house. V curious for opinions of anyone who has been in 2510 fairfield.

  17. Russ, I am also moving to the OP, and I’ve been thinking of riding my bike downtown to commute. What route do you take? How long does it usually take you? Thanks!
