A Gold Coast 2/2 With “$300,000 in high end upgrades”: 1030 N. State Parkway

This 2-bedroom in Newberry Plaza at 1030 N. State Parkway in the heart of the Gold Coast restaurant district came on the market in October 2012.

It’s not your vanilla 2-bedroom unit.

The listing says it has $300,000 in high end upgrades.

The kitchen has custom cabinets, stone counter tops and some stainless steel appliances.

The bathrooms are stone and one has a double vanity.

The main living space appears to have some kind of stone floors.

There is a large walk-in closet with an in-unit washer/dryer.

The unit has central air and parking is leased in the building.

The listing says it has north, east and west exposures.

Newberry Plaza is a full amenity building with a pool and doorman.

The unit has been reduced $175,900 since October 2012 and is now listed at $674,000.

It that a deal for a property with these finishes and location?

Millie Bursac at Re/Max Premier Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. It’s not my cup of tea, but I see there being more prospective buyers of this place than of comparably priced two beds at 2550 N. Lakeview. The three+ beds at the latter are another story, as they’re likely more attractive to families than this location near the V Triangle (we nearly rented in this building; nice unit, but would not have wanted to live in that area all the time). But for well-heeled empty nesters or divorcees, pro athletes, foreigners, etc., this building/location/unit must be more appealing.

  3. nice place. assessments/taxes sure seem reasonable to me.

i’d eat at Gibson’s every week.

in another stage of life this one would be high on my list.

With a name like old hickory I would assume that being on the “Vigra Triangle” would be right up your alley!

  5. I wonder if they purposely chose to keep what looks like a large comforter in the dryer for the picture.

  8. Interesting to put the W/D in the closet – easy for putting away the clothes, but perhaps a bit humid. Though I prefer that to the kitchen being in the living room.

  9. I’ve only ever had a washer that drained into a utility sink – if you have one like this, where does the water go? Do you hook it in with the bathroom plumbing somehow?

Based on two 23×15 bedrooms I am guessing that this two combined units and that the walk-in closet may have been one of the kitchens- probably connected to those lines.

Should have its own drain line in the wall, that ties into the main drain stack.

  12. I bet the dryer is a condensation dryer. I have one and they are a big pain.

  13. This place is nice, and the finishes are high quality. Other than the assessments being annoying, this place seems like a good deal, cool views, great location, above the fray…I wonder if call girls still live in this building. Don’t laugh, before the internet the biggest section in the Yellow Pages was Escort ads, and there are alot of hotels in DT.

I wonder if the master closet is staged with a range of colored polo shirts from thrift stores? Nobody could need that many. Also, is it common in a 1970 building to have a vented hood?

  14. I doubt if the taxes will remain that low for long after it sells. Nice place & nice area if you’re the kind that likes to be in the center of things. Some do. Only thing I have a problem with would be the kitchen backslpash, which would get to me after a while.
