Affordable Lake Shore Drive: A 2-Bedroom at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville

680 n lake shore drive

This 2-bedroom in 680 N. Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville just came on the market.

It is on the second floor and doesn’t have lake views, but the 2nd and 16th floors in this building have extra high ceilings measuring 11 feet, 6 inches.

The unit has bamboo floors and a newer kitchen with Silestone counter tops, Miele and Bosch appliances and a breakfast bar.

The listing says the second bedroom is “interior” which I gather to mean that it has no windows. It does have an attached half bath, however.

There’s side-by-side laundry, central air and garage parking is available for $50,000.

680 N. Lake Shore Drive is a full amenity building with a 24-hour doorman, pool, exercise room and a host of day-to-day amenities like a gourmet grocer, a pharmacy, a hardware store, a coffee shop and a dry cleaners.

You never have to leave.

Is this an affordable option for those looking to live on the lake?

Jennifer Ames at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

  2. If you don’t care much about views, this place is a great deal. Big, clean, nice. Went to a pediatrician’s office in this building for 4 years. It’s a massive building.

  3. terrible views but other than that, I’m not sure a 440k 2/1.5ba will last long in that area which is kind of crazy to think about

  4. I wonder how difficult it would be to change the laundry room into a full bathroom and then move the laundry room into the half bath.

If I’m going to live somewhere with a horrible view, it may as well be a great neighborhood like this one. I also really like this building. It’s so quiet even with all of the businesses on the ground floor.

  5. I’m sure this will sell fast considering the low price but I have to wonder who would want to live in the second floor of a building right on LSD.

  6. I find it utterly sterile and depressing. What’s up with the weird kitchen cabinet layout.

  8. And the location of the pole sucked too. Being so close to the counter, no option of pole dancing…lol

  9. “680 N. Lake Shore Drive is a full amenity building …”

    “You never have to leave.”

One of the worst “Golden Prison” locations in frigid blustery Chicago. Nothing to do around here, you’re stuck.

  10. I looked at this building when i was condo shopping. Awwwful. The pool was old and in the basement. Super spooky. Perfect place to shoot a horror film.

  11. Surprised Jenny Ames took a property this cheap. Wonderfully photographed (for what it is), but ultimately feels sterile without a lot of natural light. Kitchen cabinets & counters could be modernized but for under $400k I suppose you get what you pay for.

  12. It’s got to be noisy being that close to LSD. On the other hand traffic is frequently jammed at that point and there are a few hundred cars idling. Which means that you can’t ever think about opening a window because of the massive amounts of smog and soot.

This is either a “Golden Prison” or a condo for a person who doesn’t spend much time at home.

Because prominent people never own ‘inexpensive’ condo units.
