Buy Your Own “White Palace” in River North: A 1-Bedroom Loft at 411 W. Ontario

411 w ontario

This 1-bedroom duplex up loft at 411 W. Ontario in River North came on the market in April 2015.

The listing has dubbed it the “White Palace” because everything in it is white except the timber ceilings.

The kitchen has European style white cabinets with white counter tops and stainless steel appliances (so I guess those are one of the only other things not white.)

The bedroom is on the second floor and you ascend a white staircase to get there.

This unit has washer/dryer in the unit, central air and deeded parking is included.

White is “in” as a decorating motif.

But this unit is on the first floor of the building- not the high first floor- but the actual first floor.

It has been reduced $60,000 since April to $339,000.

What will it take to make a sale on this property?

Barbara Sapstein at Baird & Warner has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. Why does every listing say “rarely available”?

  2. Chuk, it creates a sense of urgency. Who cares if it’s true?

The second bathroom is very large. Why didn’t the developer have included a shower? How much could it have possibly cost during development to add the shower?

Well, 1/2’s are pretty rare. It’s probably a 1/1.5 just to conform to norms.

  5. actually I take that back, I don’t think he would like the ‘Noveau’ Tavern/nightclub across the street very much and all the shenanigans that come with it (and seriously there are some pretty fucking obnoxious shenanigans having lived a few blocks away I can hear and see all the shit) I’m surprised it hasn’t been shut down yet.

As for the loft itself, this is one of the better ones that I have seen in this building… at least your windows aren’t literally right on the feeder ramp this one is on ontario street which is about a billion times quieter and its on the first floor which is definitely interesting

  6. “dan would love this”

    Naw, he’s all pro-beaux-art, anti-bauhaus/’modernist’, because, you know…

Screw the second bath shower. Look at the master “bath/shower” thing. You would have to be a cirque du soleil performer to get in and out of that thing every morning if you were over 60 years old. Or a hungover 20 something. Really an odd choice. I’d have forgone the tub and put in a simple shower pan and glass. Perhaps the second bathroom could have fit a standard bathtub.

  8. The first floor living room windows are directly along the sidewalk and at the same level. Unless you want to live under observation like a zoo animal, you can figure that these windows will be covered and remain covered. No thank you.

  9. Sonies – In April, the city told Nouveau Tavern that it could only operate as a restaurant during normal restaurant hours and in May they closed up shop permanently. That pox on the neighborhood is gone!

  11. Is this like the Mike Brady architect where no matter what he designs looks like it’s from the early 90’s?
