A Family Home in the Sky With Lake Views: 2912 N. Commonwealth in East Lakeview

2912 n commonwealth #1 approved

This 4-bedroom at 2912 N. Commonwealth in East Lakeview recently came on the market.

Built in 1929, this brick and limestone building has just 26 units and a parking garage.

At 3200 square feet, this unit lives like a single family home but in the sky.

It has a library, a separate dining room and foyer.

The master suite has a granite bathroom.

Some of its vintage character remains in its wood burning fireplace, built-in bookcases, crown molding and ceiling medallions.

The listing says there is a chef’s kitchen with wood cabinets and Viking appliances.

It has the features buyers look for including washer/dryer in the unit, space pak, and a 1-car attached garage.

It is also in the Nettelhorst school district.

Is this unit the ideal high rise family home?

Emily Sachs Wong at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. I’d be worried about the views if the hospital decided to rebuild at some point in the future. The building is pretty nice, average condition I’d say, gorgeous, elegant lobby.

  2. My kind of building, and that apartment has lovely bones. HOA and taxes are reasonable, and no more than what you would expect.

However, I hope the eventual buyer will have better sense than to give the seller such a massive improvement over the 2006 price for this badly-improved unit. The bath with the wood floors and hideous Victorian tub on legs is a fright, and that kitchen is a little too farmhouse-y. Did anyone ever tell the owner that a tub on legs does not belong in a 20s-vintage highrise- a designer of that era would have been stone horrified to see such a thing in her building. Additionally, it looks as though a lot of exquisite woodwork was painted over. There’s nothing I hate like white paint slopped on beautiful old wood wainscoting….. except Victorian bath fixtures.
