The Most Unusual Place for a Shower Ever? 15 E. Division in the Gold Coast

15-e-division

This 3-bedroom duplex down in The Kirkwood at 15 E. Division in the Gold Coast came on the market in August 2016.

This is a 6-unit building with outdoor parking behind it.

It has tall ceilings and hardwood floors on the main floor along with 2 of the 3 bedrooms.

The kitchen has white cabinets along with some open shelving, granite and butcher block counter tops, and stainless steel appliances.

This unit has 2 fireplaces and exposed brick in the basement.

The third bedroom is also in the basement, along with a family room and a full bath which appears to be open to the bedroom.

The shower in the bathroom looks like it has 3 glass walls and a 4th wall that is open to the rest of the bathroom but also seems to be in the middle of the bedroom.

Is this the most unusual place you’ve ever seen a shower?

This unit has central air, washer/dryer in the unit and an outdoor parking space behind the building.

It was under contract in September but came back on the market and is still available at $699,000.

The listing says this unit is 2400 square feet.

Is this a good townhouse alternative?

Pamela Rueve at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

  3. I wouldn’t want this setup but I don’t have a problem with the shower. It’s the 3rd bedroom/guest room. How often is this even getting used and when it it, there’s probably 1 person in the room at a time. If it’s a couple staying over, then you have bigger problems to worry about if you can’t be in the same room as your significant other while showering. How is it any different than someone getting ready in a bathroom when their partner is in the shower with glass doors.

  4. I have friends that own a home in bucktown and that was pretty much the set up on their top floor in the master suite… they renovated it and changed it though

  6. Wouldn’t it be relatively easy/inexpensive to frost the glass and make it translucent? I’m guessing that having full walls would make the space very dark and tiny feeling?!

Along similar lines–I stayed in a Novatel hotel in Switzerland last year that had a glass shower right in the room. I was sharing the room with my 21 year old daughter. I simply left the room when she wanted to shower, and vice versa. It was odd, but not a huge issue on an occasional basis to deal with.

  8. I feel dampness emanating from the lower level exposed stone just from looking at the pictures.

  9. The kitchen: No hood vent + open shelving. Dust & airborne grease particles rejoice! I am guessing not a lot of cooking has been done in that pristine little room since the reno.

That open shower is just odd.

  10. A little clumsy in execution, but open showers feel pretty blase at this point. I mean, google “bath in bedroom” and browse the pictures.

  11. You can’t just see into the shower from the room, you can see the entire bathroom. So, if the toilet isn’t separately enclosed, it’s not just the ability to see someone in the shower, it’s seeing them on the crapper. So anytime there’s guests, they’d have to do like JAH and his daughter did, leave the room.

  12. Toilet is in its own stall – you can see it in pictures.
