Can the Old Be New Again? A Renovated 3-Bedroom at 247 E. Chestnut in Streeterville

247 e chestnut approved

This 3-bedroom in 247 E. Chestnut in Streeterville recently came on the market.

This is a complete gut renovation with new floors, doors, lighting, kitchen and bathrooms.

There are now dark wide plank floors throughout.

The kitchen has white cabinets, a backsplash, white countertops, stainless steel appliances and a kitchen island.

The bathrooms have subway tiles in the showers.

There’s a wine fridge in the unit but no washer/dryer. There’s coin laundry in the building.

Valet parking for $220 a month is also available.

There’s central air.

This building was constructed in 1963.

Can these old units get a new life through renovation?

Patrick Maliszewski at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. Why not before and after pictures? The kitchen cabinets and bathroom cabinets simply look like they have been repainted and not replaced. My guess is that they weren’t that great to begin with if they don’t need pulls/knobs to open them.

I’m also tired of agents using the word “coveted” so loosely.

Overall, this place looks dull and similar to almost every other place that’s been “newly renovated.”

  4. 8 years ago this building was the worst. Couldn’t give the huge penthouse away. The lobby reminded me a horrible old Chinese restaurant.

Things change quickly. Looks like they’ve had some decent renovations and values are improving.

  5. May not be my cup of tea – but I’ll be fascinated to hear what this gets. 215K increase for some Home Depot finishes and a paint job. Wow, congrats if they get it.

  7. I was about to hate on this place…

But what other relatively decent looking 3 bed / 2 baths , with views, in this neighborhood are south of 600k? I say it sells.

  8. Agree, this will go close to ask. Three bedrooms are not easy to find at this price point.
