  1. Heated sidewalks? You mean there’s no moving walkway to transport me from the street to my door?

These McMansions are truly a monument to the hubris that created this housing bubble.

  3. That’s hot. I’d love to live there! And the added bonus of never having to shovel again!

That ridiculous front facade really doesn’t jive with the modern(-ish) interior. At this price, I’d be quite picky about maintaining the entire aesthetic. A modernist would spontaneously wretch upon viewing that cornice and malproportioned protrusion.

The built-in iPod dock speaks for itself, really.

    The kitchen looks nice.

Someone who wants a new luxury McModernMansion would be better off checking out the various sfh’s designed by Studio Dwell in Bucktown and East Village.

  5. This showed up in either Crain’s or Chicago mag. The developer (supposedly) built it to live in but decided to downsize or something. That old industrial land over there sold for a (surprising, I think) high amount per lot.

But on the plus side, it’s right near a McDonald’s and Chinese Buffet.

  10. There is a Starbucks and a Subway closer than the McD, indeed, they share an alley.

Is the neighboring, corner lot still vacant, or has something gone up?

  11. Love the inside it looks like 1/2 my old house with 1/2 my new apt. Many friends find it stark, but I love. Outside a bit too greek for me though

  12. Yeah the front facade is not modern but rather mausoleumlike as noted earlier. When I first saw the front I thought this was the Heaven’s Gate cult’s HQ.

With all the monitoring technology in this it reminds me of the early 90s non-hit Sliver. So I guess the unit is better when compared to the acting from that movie.

  13. As an architect, I will gladly pose as the resident architect of this blog (unless others have already staked claim). As a potential home buyer, I can’t deal with 95% of the new construction on the chicago scene. This one exemplifies the abundance of crap on the market. Next.

  14. I think the buyer should put a gaudy frame around the iPod dock/screen built into the wall and spend his time trying to decide if its ironic or iconic.

I can’t put my finger on it but this is not quite McMansion. I believe a commenter once described a place as “Gordon Gecko Wannabe.” That seems more fitting.

You say West Lakeview. I say East Logan Square.

  15. “modern” wasn’t meant to be like this. It was a movement that invited gracious living with indoor/outdoor use. And functionality – storage-wise, harmony with surroundings etc….

this is just a hot mess.

    The rest of it… meh.

This is the building equivalent of the person that tries really hard and fails miserably.

  18. Great finishes and fancy gadgets — but when they botch one of the major design elements (the facade)it ruins the entire piece. Kind of like stuffing the guts of a Porsche into the body of a Ford Pinto.

    Ick.

  19. “East Logan Square”

You must be high. This is a block from Ashland on Diversey. I don’t like the immediate neighborhood (and certainly wouldn’t pay $2mm plus to live there), but it’s much more Lakeview than Logan Square–and is in 60657. In your geography, Roscoe Village doesn’t exist, it’s east Avondale or northeast Logan Square.

  20. West Lakeview is still a euphemism for that area though; it’s pretty barren. Better than West Bucktown but still a poor location to try to sell ultra-luxury single family homes.

The references in the listing state contemporary luxury. Please don’t confuse the term with modern. Completely seperate ideals.

  22. Like I said, I wouldn’t pay the freight to live there, but it’s either West Lakeview, (East) Clybourn Corridor or East Costco. Anything Logan Square doesn’t apply at all.
