A Full Floor 4-Bedroom Vintage Beauty in Kenwood: 5012 S. Woodlawn

This top floor 4-bedroom condo at 5012 S. Woodlawn in South Kenwood has more square footage at 3800 square feet than most single family homes.

Built in 1926, the unit retains many of the vintage features of that era including a barrel vaulted ceiling in the hallway, crown molding, cove molding and a marble fireplace in the living room.

The kitchen has been renovated, however, and has stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops.

The listing also says there is a new spa bath attached to the master bedroom.

All four bedrooms are generously sized, which is common in many of the pre-war units. There is also a butler’s pantry.

While there is a washer/dryer in the unit, there is no central air and there is no deeded parking (street parking only.)

  1. Such a shame that this elegant, really well laid out, maintained huge unit will only get around $400K. What is that old RE saying about location, location, location….

I wonder what it would list for at 5800 North. Let’s say it was at Devon and Clark? This is still not a top location but seems to be far more tolerable. They have just as easy access to the city center although I would suspect there is far more traffic.

  4. Overall looks like a nice place, though the layout of the bathrooms is kind of odd, with both full baths between two other rooms instead of having one for the master and one off the hallway. I still think that one day — ONE DAY — the entire area from the Loop through Hyde Park will gentrify.

“nah this is a super nice street”

Agreed. We seriously looked at a couple of units near here (@ E. Madison Park), and it is a gorgeous area, in line with the gorgeousness of the unit. Wish this place had something more to offer for parking, and if I never again, see that kind of bathroom tile shown in the master “spa,” I will not play a dirge on my violin.

  6. Woodlawn is a very busy street – very different feel from the Madison Park community…Street parking is a mess here.

  8. “around the block from President Obama’s home in historic South Kenwood”
When Obama first visited Chicago after his inauguration, this block was closed.

Overall, it is a nice location for Hyde Park and Woodlawn Ave starts to slow down just about here.
