London Rowhouse on the Street of 40 Doors Is Still Available: 3825 N. Alta Vista in Lakeview

Alta Vista Terrace is a unique street in Lakeview as it is an exact replica of a Victorian-era London street. It is a landmark district.

We last chattered about this 6-bedroom rowhouse at 3825 N. Alta Vista in June 2010.

See our prior chatter and pictures here.

This is apparently one of only 4 three-story rowhouses that also have a basement on the street.

It is also one of the few that has garage parking as one side of the street has parking and the other does not.

The kitchen has been renovated with cherry cabinets, stainless steel appliances by Subzero and Wolfe and granite counter tops.

The house also has central air.

The price is unchanged since we last chattered about it.

  1. i heart this street, but the proximity to wrigley, the tiny bathrooms, and the dining room are a total bummer. still, 6 bedrooms for a mil is pretty great. wonder what’s in that basement?

Um, yes? As it’s got a roof and walls. (yes, I realize I’m being painfully literal)

From the description: “The lower level features a high basement, which could be converted to a family room.In addition to the large open main room, there is a wine storage closet, laundry room, large rear storage room and attached garage.”

With the driveway coming from the back of the lot to the house it does kill the usability of outdoor space. Although it may trump not haveing any parking. Dosen’t the other side of the street have detached garages with a little green space btwn house and garage?

This side is right against the alley. There is no driveway.

There’s enough space to have a garage and a wide walkway/small patio or a small backyard, but not both.

I would turn the basement into two more bedrooms.

  10. This is on the East side, which has no outdoor space. The homes on the West side do. There is also a park behind the homes on the West side, then the cemetery.

I was talking to a woman who lives on this street and she told me some inside info… I didn’t share last time this was featured but what the hell. This is a divorce situation. She also told me another home would be coming on the market soon because of a death unfortunately. She said the home would need rehab because the owner was elderly and lived there for quite a while. This was in June however, so who knows.

  11. Sorry…off topic, but does anyone know of an effective way to report to the IDFPR an unlicensed real estate operation and its unlicensed agents? I keep trying to call the IDFPR number and it’s a maze of transfers that get me nowhere.

Call the AGs office. Play it as a consumer protection thing, rather than a licensing thing.

  13. I have been in a place on the west side of the street. It was much smaller than this pace; it had a bathroom on the upper floor and the basement and it did not have a 3rd floor.

Charming little Victorian rowhouses, but too close to the Wrigley riff-raff for many, also something tells me that navigating the area in winter is not very easy. (Vintage chairs on the shoveled-out streets, maybe? LOL)

Also, isn’t there a convent along with the cemetery and park on the west site of AVT?
