2-Bedroom Full Floor Penthouse in Streeterville for $1.19 Million: 680 N. Lake Shore Drive
This 2-bedroom penthouse in the Tower Residences at 680 N. Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville came on the market in July 2023.
680 N. Lake Shore Drive is a unique building.
According to Wikipedia, it was completed in 1926. it was originally called the American Furniture Mart and was the largest building in the world when finished.
It has a total of 415 units in 3 different condo associations: The Tower, The Lake and the South Residences.
The South Residences has 120 units, the Tower has 131 units, and the Lake, 264.
This is a full amenity building with an indoor pool, exercise room and 24-hour door staff. It has attached garage parking.
There is commercial space in the building as well as a shopping concourse with a restaurant, coffee shop, Walgreens, a bank and other amenities.
This unit is a full floor duplex in the tower with 360 degree lake and city views measuring 2850 square feet. It is also the penthouse.
A private elevator opens directly into the unit which has a 50 foot open living/dining room.
It has what looks like stone floors throughout the first floor living areas with carpet in the bedrooms.
The primary suite includes a walk-in-closet and en suite bathroom. The second bathroom is on the main floor. It appears that both bathrooms have walk-in-showers and that there is no bathtub.
There are motorized window treatments in the living space.
The kitchen has white (cream?) cabinets, stone counter tops, a double oven and custom front appliances.
This unit has the features buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and there are 3 garage parking spaces for sale at $65,000 each.
This building is near the shops and restaurants of Streeterville, the lake front trail and Northwestern Hospital.
Listed at $1.19 million, that’s under the 2012 sales price of $1.24 million.

Didn’t realize that the tower isn’t actually a square.
Floor plan for 2800 ($1.19 in Apr-22; one garage spot, taxes = $8723, somehow) fills in the blankspace:

I don’t understand why anybody would pay good money to live in that area.
“I don’t understand why anybody would pay good money to live in that area.”
Have you ever lived in that area? What are you basing that statement on?
I recently lived a couple streets over for over 10 years and it was a great area to live in. Best views in the entire city. That area is crawling with celebs and rich and famous. I enjoyed this area far more than when I’ve lived in LP, Old Town or Lakeview

To the person who tried to sign in as David, and left the comment above, we already have another David on the site so please sign in with “Dave” as you used to in the past.
“Have you ever lived in that area?”
Thankfully, no.
What are you basing that statement on?
I’ve been down there for business but I wouldn’t want to live so far east. You are practically living at Navy Pier. Annoying tourists everywhere as well. No thanks.

It’s pretty residential on the side streets other than the main drag that goes directly to Navy Pier. Lots of tourists on that street, it’s true. Honestly, most tourists don’t know about the cute restaurants that are on the back streets that surround the hospital.
I’m a huge fan of the tower units in this building. If I had the money this would be on my bucket list. I hope they have another open house because I’m away this weekend.
I remember when this was converted to condos in around 1982. I loved the tower part and imagined how awesome it would be to live up there.

Agree that the tower units are special.
1. Sleeping loft instead of a bedroom.
2. No half bath.
3. No outdoor space.
