Crib Chatter Is On Hiatus
Crib Chatter was going to go on hiatus as of November 1 but with the market so slow there’s no time like the present.
I have major projects going on in November so this is a good time to take a break.
I will still be posting periodically, mostly on market conditions, including monthly sales, until inventory picks up.
The site will remain operational, including the forums.
Happy house hunting everyone!
Have a good break!
enjoy your sabbatical
“It’s over Johnny”
Enjoy the time off Sabrina!
@chuk, yep, it’s over.
well get posting on the forums, people!
Anyone else see this Crain’s article about how housing prices in the south suburbs are at early 1990s levels?
We’ve chattered about this. Flossmoor and other suburbs along the southern train line are CHEAP. Property taxes are still pretty high. But you can get a vintage house within walking distance to the train station for a song.

Housing is cheap because the south suburbs suck hard, Crete? Jeez just move to Indiana!
Enjoy the time off, Sabrina. I look forward to your return!
The south suburbs have become cheap because the income levels of the residents has changed. The new residents are poorer than the old residents dragging down property values. The NW suburbs like Mt. Prospect, Arl. Hts Park Ridge OTOH have attracted wealthier residents and property values have increased.
HD: the south suburbs still have some very good high schools like Homewood-Flossmoor which is ranked in the top 50 in Illinois.
“That includes 65-year-old Annette Wade, a residential broker who owns a five-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Lynwood that she and her late husband bought in 1998 for $168,000, when it was new. Today, it’s worth about $160,000, well below the nearly $190,000 owed on it, she says.”
Um, what?!
“Um, what?!”
Think this is probably her best comp (at least that has interior pix):

I love all the cash out refinance stories of woe…
GMAFB
I was incredulous at the fact that she bought it in 1998 at 168K, yet owes 190K on it in 2013.
That shit should be half paid off, son!

No refi on what I think is the house in question. Looks like financial difficulties. Did borrow 95% in ’98.
