One Bedroom Week: Panoramic Views for $275,000 at 3550 N. Lake Shore Drive in Lakeview

This 1-bedroom in 3550 N. Lake Shore Drive in East Lakeview came on the market in October 2025.

Built in 1962, 3550 N. Lake Shore Drive has two towers, the North and South Towers with 728 units. It has attached valet parking.

It’s a full amenity building with 24/7 door staff, 2 rooftop decks, a party room, a fitness center, a commissary, a secure receiving room, on-site management and on-site maintenance.

It’s also a non-smoking building and does not allow dogs.

This unit is south facing in the South Tower with panoramic views of the Lake, Belmont Harbor and the City.

It was renovated for the last sale in 2022.

There are luxury vinyl floors throughout except for the kitchen which has tile.

The “cook’s kitchen” is open to the living/dining room and has white Shaker style cabinets, with white quartz countertops, a white subway tile backsplash and has a large island with room for bar stools. It also has a Culligan osmosis system providing drinking water.

The listing says the bedroom is “huge” and can fit a king sized bed with nightstands. It also has a walk-in-closet.

The bathroom has a newer vanity, lighting, tile and mirror.

The unit has some of the features that buyers look for. It doesn’t have in-unit washer/dryer and the listing says you cannot put it in. There are two laundry rooms however.

It also doesn’t have central air but has wall unit cooling. There’s valet parking available at $160 a month with no wait list.

The unit has solar shades and blackout shades in the bedroom.

Thinking of investing? The listing says the owners must own for 18 months before renting but that there is no “rental cap.”

The listing also says the reserves are at $9 million and that there are no specials and none pending.

FHA financing is apparently not allowed.

This building is near the Lakefront Trail, Belmont Harbor and the shops and restaurants of East Lakeview. There are buses nearby.

Listed in October 2025 for $287,500, it has been reduced $12,500 to $275,000.

Is this a good starter unit for Lakeview living?

  1. “FHA financing is apparently not allowed.”

Seems that would be a violation of Illinois law.

This is the appropriate price category to have those appliances, for once.

It’s fine; something about the kitchen layout really bothers me, but I can’t quite figure it out.

Valet only parking sucks in this big of an association and at this price point.

Why would I want to be stuck with the cable package, and have to pay for internet individually?? I could understand “pay for faster”, but internet access is more basic utility than cable at this point.

I was wondering the same thing anon(tfo). If anything, it should be the reverse. Internet is included but cable is now optional as so many people have rejected cable now. But a building of this size, with over 700 units, should be able to get a really good deal on an Internet/cable package complete with the Tivo tuner and all of that. Why don’t they leverage their size?

As for valet parking, it’s not my favorite. I’m assuming the garage must be too tight and maybe they had a lot of crashes in there. So they decided to restrict it to valet only.

But you have to plan when to get your car when you have that. And during “busy” seasons you need to call down early to get it.
