The Streeterville Loft Studio: 211 E. Ohio
We’ve chattered about these “loft” styled large studios at 211 E. Ohio, the Grand Ohio, in Streeterville before.
This one is 650 square feet, has 16 foot ceilings and the in-unit washer/dryer.
There are only 15 of these “loft” units in the building and the floor has its own separate elevator.
Is this a good in-town option?
Sharon Burge at Prudential Preferred has the listing. See more pictures here.

i think it would be fun to live in a studio. I like the little work station they built into the kitchen – everyone needs a place for a printer, etc these days. and this one also has W/D in unit.
Only 650 sf and it has a kitchen that large AND a full size W&D?
As nice as it appears to be, I think someone went a bit overboard on using space that a single would not really need.
Another “rare” property. Somebody better pounce on this…it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity!
280k for a studio? LOL.
Dorothy we’re not in Manhattan anymore.
I’ve seen a couple loft units in this building. Overall, these are pretty nice units (for what they are — essentially studios). Some owners are utilizing the vertical space better than others. This particular unit makes good use of space.
However, 277K for 650 sq ft? Cmon now… that’s just silly. With those assessments, I’d say ~180 – 200K would get this sold.
John
The curtains are drawn in the picture to cover up the view… I wonder what that view is? Probably a neighbor 20′ away…
Nice finishes, but this is a ‘wishing price’, not asking price.
The unit looks directly into a parking garage. You can almost leap off the balcony into the garage.
the views are decent. to the s. side, there is basically unobstructed view of the skyline. the N. side looks over Ohio street and the building across the street, but it’s much more sightly than an alley view
I love the gargantuan refrigerator in a studio apartment. The agent should add “go grocery shopping once a year!” to the listing.
Edit:
didn’t realize it was 3rd floor… i was speaking from experience about an 18th floor…
“The unit looks directly into a parking garage. You can almost leap off the balcony into the garage.”
Well that saves you a trip down the elevator right? +70k to the price on that alone!
haha good catch about the curtain! the 2000 price seems fair. i dont understand any of the subsequent pricing, even in the monopoly money years…i never really liked this area though.
David’s got the view right. in fact when people park in the garage the headlights shine right into these units. its close – you can read not only the license plates but the VIN plates on the cars.. haha. there is a terrace just outside those doors tho. if the health club is still free to owners its a super nice place with pool.
actually i take back what i said about the 2000 price. that was right in the middle of the dot com bubble with the nasdaq at 4200 in August of 2000. so, then that crashed & the housing bubble began. thus, I think it should be even lower than the 2000 price. i’m in a bitchy mood though today so take it with a grain of salt.
I have a better idea, I can take my 250k and buy a 1br in the same area!
Yeah I know we’re not supposed to compare different areas, but if I was a cash buyer I’d save up an additional 82k from this ask price and move here:

How much does it cost to build a lofted sleeping area? For that price, the sellers should offer to build that lofted space themselves. Other than that I think the Grand Ohio is a great building. The assmts are pretty reasonable considering all the amenities you get.
funny. I’ve stayed in that key west condo complex. Bob is right.
Or buy this:

and have about $150k left over.
That’s why comparing different areas is ridiculous; this isn’t being marketed to someone who’s considering a condo in Key West or a house in Thailand as a substitute. They’re marketing to someone looking for an in-town in Chicago–maybe someone who spends most of their time in Key West or Thailand.
That condo is 2x the size and only costs slightly more… wow
“this isn’t being marketed to someone who’s ”
Its a damn near 300k studio. I am curious as to who its being marketed to.
“I am curious as to who its being marketed to.”
People with more money than sense.* They should hire a timeshare sales company to handle it.
* Which would include people with actual jobs in Chicago who buy condos in Key West or houses in Thailand.
comparing it to this one would be fair.

I lived there awhile back. The units are nice inside, but the garage across from the bacony is not the best. Just have to keep your blinds closed. Will they be building something where the garage is at some point.
I like this unit, although I wouldn’t pay that much. For the comments about why someone would need a kitchen or fridge or laundry area that large in a studio… I would! The only reason I don’t live in a studio now is because I like to cook, and 99% of studio kitchens really suck.
this is now the ugliest building in Chicago since the Sun Times Building was torn down. Wasn’t this formerly a holiday inn?
No it was not formerly a holiday inn….that ugly buidling is now a double tree down the street
