We last chattered about this cute 1890s workman’s cottage at 3554 S. Union in Bridgeport in January 2009.

See our prior chatter and pictures here.

It’s been on the market since October 2008 and has now been reduced by $89,000.

Is this now an affordable starter home?

  1. Nobody with West Elm interior decorating taste wants to live near The Cell.

Nobody who wants to live near the Cell has West Elm interior decorating taste.

    Hence, the price reductions.

  2. Steele- care to comment?
From prior post “329K is not outrageous for this house…250K would be a steal for this house…However, this is on a very high desired street, so I wouldnt be surpirsed to see it sell”

-I have no comment as I know nothing about the neighborhood, and do not desire to live there.

Haha go buy it. People said the same thing about CSCO & AOL stock in 2001..

  4. My guess for this one? 245k.

Would be lower if not for government, taxpayer funded programs designed to prop up the lower end of the market.

    -totally agree.

Lived in Bridgport a few years back, had a few friend around the area. This is definitely the most desirable part of Bridgeport. However, this building’s interior does not match the predominate buyer for the area.

  7. THe 2 beds doesn’t help either.

  8. The lack of basement doesn’t help either. And we still can’t get an accurate square foot count per the MLS. I mean its not like they didn’t have eight months to stitch that little factoid up.

if that factoid were a positive then I’m sure the agent would have figured it out by at least day 90. Since its 8 months later, maybe its better to continually forget to add the SQ footage.

  10. Just by eyeballing the Room dimensions, its probably no more than 1200 sqft.

  14. I like the look of the kitchen (esp fridge) too Tom, other than just maybe a bit too big for the space, it all looks great. Interesting little house….very clean and well staged.
Of course, I do not like anything South of 290, so I will not comment further.

And Bob, thank God there are those ‘government and taxpayer funded programs to prop up the lower end of the market’ as without them, there would be even more of a mess. Not all who took part or will rely on them have/will default(ed). ….didn’t we discuss this yesterday?
