It is the dreaded half mile from the Blue Line (either North or Division), which means that most CC’ers would be car dependent in this location.

OK, so I’ll walk two blocks west from Paulina (*after* walking a half block north), and that gets me to … what? Wolcott? Leaving me a block and a half from the station. Having already walked 2 and half blocks. Door to door, it’s 4 almost bang on 4 blocks, or 0.5 miles.
Also: that’s a long term running theme here at CribChatter–half a mile is usually too far to walk to get to the train, because it takes 20 minutes.

Oh, it’s a great location for a work from home sort. Neighborhood is awesome. But CC has determined that half a mile is too far from the train.
As someone who has made past comments on train proximity here and always factors that into the equation, I think half a mile is fine and no way does it take even close to 20 mins. Any longer sucks, at least in winter.
Meh. I don’t care for this neighborhood. I like that it’s near an expressway entrance though, which makes it far more appealing than other far flung areas of the city like North Center and Lincoln Square.
Also, if taking public transportation, it would annoy me to have to walk west to get to the stop, when my final destination was south east.

Over the years, there have been multiple CC posters who asserted that half a mile is a ~20 minute walk. And one who claimed to be able to walk a mile and a half in under 15.

I previously asserted that my mile walk to the Rogers Park Metra is 15 mins. I would think most people could tackle a 1/2 mile in under 10 mins at the pace most locals walk downtown.

It needs some updating – that stairwell is gross. Oddly enough, i’d rather be more WEST in this neighborhood – away from the highway, but this is a good deal.
If I had a 500k budget and was looking to buy in wicker, bucktown/logan, this would be ideal.
We lived in this building for three years. It’s perfectly walkable, ya lazies! Worked downtown, took about 10 minutes to get to either stop. It’s basically right in the middle of Daman and Division. We loved living here. And, while the stairway admittedly needs updating, the building is great. And the 72 (?) bus is literally a 30 second walk from the front door. I never felt like I was too very far from public transport here, though admittedly I would have preferred to be a bit closer in January and February.
