A 6-Bedroom Greystone With All the Bells and Whistles in Southport: 1334 W. Newport
This 6-bedroom greystone at 1334 W. Newport in Southport came on the market in April 2016.
Built in 2010 on a larger than standard Chicago lot of 30 x 125, it has a 3-car garage.
The house has 10 foot ceilings, custom millwork, crown moldings and a Control 4 with fully integrated lighting, climate, music, home theater and security.
It has the preferred layout with 4 of the 6 bedrooms on the second level, along with a laundry room.
The kitchen has an L-shaped island with dark wood cabinets and luxury appliances.
There’s also a butler pantry with a Miele coffee machine, wine fridge and wet bar.
The house has even more features on the top floor, which has a media room along with a ventless fireplace, wet bar, dishwasher, refrigerator, ice maker and a massive 700 bottle wine cellar (check out the pictures).
There’s also a walkout terrace on this level with a hot tube and outdoor fireplace.
The other 2 bedrooms are in the lower level along with a recreation room and an exercise room.
It’s listed for $175,000 more than the 2015 sale, at $2.85 million.
Will this house find it hard to compete with the newly constructed and renovated homes in this neighborhood?
Ryan Preuett at Jameson Sotheby’s has the listing. See the pictures here.

Same cliche, uninspired decor as all these other places. The most daring thing they did was use of dark wood, which turned out nice. But the gray paint and “safe” tile choices scream cookie cutter. Still, with a few tweaks this place could be close to perfect for me except for the price. Love the top floor party room, don’t see that every day.
Nice place, and Newport is a great street here, but sucks to know I could nor ever would be able to afford such a nice place at such a massive price, I mean damn how is this going to continue? Are boomers kicking the bucket left and right leaving behind millions in inheritances?
I’d like to save everyone a lot of time and encourage you all to get back to work: just review all the comments from the last 2 days and apply them to this post…

Same ridiculously overpriced, gaudy crap – different day.
So this place has 4 living/sitting rooms (1st floor front, 1st floor rear “breakfast” area, basement “media” room, and 3rd floor). Kind of overkill on the living rooms or whatever you want to call rooms with tvs and sofas. LoL.
Also this whole open concept trend of kitchen being opened right into the “breakfast/living rooms”. Won’t the cooking smells just seep into the sofa upholstery?
What’s with the nonstop 2 million+ dollar posts? are any of us actually able to afford these houses?
People were bitching about the lack of SFH posts so what the hell do you people want?
Not sure why, but I find this place to be less cookie-cutter than the last few posts (probably the media/party room that opens onto the roof deck – that is seriously covet-worthy).
“Not sure why, but I find this place to be less cookie-cutter than the last few posts (probably the media/party room that opens onto the roof deck – that is seriously covet-worthy).”
I agree. Less cookie cutter than the rest of the stuff currently available. The finishes are nice as well. The price point however, yikes.
This one is definitely superior to yesterday’s….
I think Sonies must be right about inheritances. ONly someone who inherits money could be so impulsive. I feel like if you are moving around as flippantly from multi-million dollar home to the next as you would an average priced condo, it is bad enough. the transaction costs are just too high – – are these folks headed to the burbs or just another city? Only two years in a $2MM+ home? Seriously, they would have been MUCH better off renting. You don’t flippantly move around when you buy multi-million dollar homes. The markup here is some attempt to cover their transaction costs.
Is this even a grey stone? The neighboring properties look like grey stones. Why would I buy this over a real grey stone?
Also, why are the taxes so low? If it sold for 2.6 million 2 years ago, why are the taxes still only 22K?
I agree that it is superior to yesterdays and agree about the inheritances, and never being able to afford something like this.
On a more positive note, I guess it does show what one could do with a classic Greystone if they bought it for cheap and played the long game on the neighborhood gentrifying at a later point.
The current owner did a pretty good job of keeping his identity off the public record (land trust), but someone put his real name in as the tax bill recipient–oops.
NOT a finance guy, nor a lawyer, nor a F500 exec, nor a doc.

Seriously it’s getting ridiculous. Nothing personal against Sabrina, but I’d like to see some more affordable properties featured.
ps: obviously not 100% sure, but do not think its large inheritance, either.
The tax bills I looked at all say CT.
Ahem. YES property taxes are quite low for this home and I would assume if you paid this ask you would run the risk of a big increase at the next triennial assessment. The assessed value is $1MM under the ask here. Also the property is possibly mis-categorized on the assessors web site. Says it is 2,001 – 3,800 SF when the listing seems to indicate significantly greater square footage. Hmmmm.
I don’t mind seeing expensive homes on this site, but with the exception of Monday’s listing, they have all been so dull and lifeless. They make me feel sad. You have all this money to spend and instead of choosing something interesting, you pick one of these.
“The tax bills I looked at all say CT.”
Yeah, they fixed that. Didn’t scrub everything, tho.
“significantly greater square footage”
1. basement doesn’t count at all.
2. some puffery in realtor SF calc is assumed.
3. looking at the floorplans, calcs out to around 3800 + ~1700 basement.
“Yeah, they fixed that. Didn’t scrub everything, tho.”
Took me a second to realize what you meant and then it clicked in. I’m a little slow today from a lingering sinus infection/cold….
So, I found what you’re talking about, but I found it to be illegible reading it online….unless you didn’t look at it online, and you’ve got direct or indirect access to private databases at private companies that I don’t. Well I have indirect access but I’m not going to waste those contacts to look up this for me…
“I found it to be illegible reading it online”
Maybe on your phone…I zoomed in perfectly, and had no problem reading it.
you doxers creep me out
i zoomed in and it looked like scribbles to me on my monitor
you got some fancy high resolution ips monitor?
“NOT a finance guy, nor a lawyer, nor a F500 exec, nor a doc.”
Remember- we’re not here to discuss who owns the properties unless it’s someone who’s a public figure who has already gone to the Tribune or Crain’s etc to market the property (for example: Vince Vaughn’s former penthouse in the Palmolive).
Otherwise, you wouldn’t like people snooping around in your business so don’t do it here.
“Remember- we’re not here to discuss who owns the properties unless it’s someone who’s a public figure who has already gone to the Tribune or Crain’s etc to market the property (for example: Vince Vaughn’s former penthouse in the Palmolive).”
But it’s hard to meaningfully discuss the decor unless we know something about the owners.
“i zoomed in and it looked like scribbles to me on my monitor

You’re looking in the wrong place, then.
“we’re not here to discuss who owns the properties”
I only pointed out what s/he is NOT.
This place is pretty awesome, and I don’t mind the décor either, but given the semi-tiny dining table in the (awesome) dining room, I’m a little depressed to ponder how few friends or family these otherwise very fortunate folks have.
“You’re looking in the wrong place, then.”
So there are two places then….double ooooops!!!
