A Loft With Tin Ceilings in West Town: 1400 W. Chestnut
This 3-bedroom loft at 1400 W. Chestnut in West Town isn’t your ordinary loft.
It is a first floor unit with authentic tin ceilings and tall windows.
It has hardwood floors, crown molding and a fireplace.
And if you’re looking for open spaces, it has 2500 square feet of it.
The kitchen has stainless appliances and there is a private patio.
Molly Boyd at Prudential Rubloff has the listing. See the pictures here.

Decent enough looking space. But what is up with this building? There are 3 units, all 3 are currently listed. #2 is contingent at 299 for 3br+den/2bath, and #3 is contingent at 249 for 3bd+den/2bath. Both have been on the market for 176 days and have the same pictures yet only #3 is listed as a short sale. Something fishy going on…..
Being directly across from a vacant, walled up church isn’t great.
Appears that lone 1st floor master bedroom has no windows
Other two bedrooms are probably in the basement with also no windows
fire trap?
Other than that looks great while a little narrow
Nice looking, but I’m not a fan of the master bedroom right next to the living area (what if the old lady wants to hit the hay and you want to carry on with the homeboys) ESPECIALLY when it’s open like that.
Yeah, and #2 and #3 have the same pics.
Eckhart Park is cool. You’ll find some old guys sitting out there drinking most nights – some (especially solo females) would feel quite uncomfortable. Some baseball ocassionally, too, and there are pick-up basketball games. There is a large senior housing building facing the park, and directly across the street from this place.
The church has been the subject of a lot of controversy and development plans over the last few years — it’s been vacant since the early 90s, I think. It’s survived demolition numerous times by the skin of its teeth. Plans, as of a couple years ago, were for another senior development w/o demolition. Not sure of the status, though.
the church is st. boniface. old german catholic church, historically significant and architecturally important (gothic?)…the library system considered using it, but not sure that plan is still alive. i taught at the school (now torn down) for a year as a recent college grad in 70s. had 40 kids in the class–almost even split between polish, puerto rican, mexican and african-american (noble street cha housing nearby). only the african-american kids spoke english at home. challenging.
