An 1890s Vintage Lover’s Dream in Lincoln Park: A 3-Bedroom at 2233 N. Bissell

2233 n bissell

This 3-bedroom at 2233 N. Bissell in the DePaul neighborhood of Lincoln Park came on the market in September 2016.

The building was constructed in 1890 and has 3 units on what the listing says is an extra wide lot.

It has many of its vintage features still intact including crown molding, molding around the doorways, a wood burning fireplace in the dining room with a wood fireplace mantle, a built-in hutch in the dining room and built-in bookcases.

One of the two bathrooms has a claw foot tub.

The kitchen has white cabinets and white appliances.

The unit has an in-unit washer/dryer and garage parking along with a back deck.

It doesn’t have central air but has window units instead.

The building is NOT on the El side of the street.

Originally listed for $525,000 last year, it was reduced under $500,000 and then went under contract.

It has come back on the market at $489,900.

Is this an opportunity to get into one of Lincoln Park’s most established neighborhoods without the million dollar price?

Michael Kennelly at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. my guess is that this one sells nearly instantly

  2. Instantly as in 9 days after listing…?

Lack of central AC sucks but there’s so much extra to make up for it. Lovely place overall, but I’d love to see a floorplan. Some rooms look pretty awkward and I have to wonder if the realtor rounded up the room sizes.

“an opportunity to get into…” – depends, this is definitely not a starter home for most people/couples (ones who didn’t graduate debt free and land $75k+ starting salaries with additional help mom & dad’s bank for DP). But luckily Lincoln Park still has some good options for modest first time buyers in the sub 300k range.

  3. Yes the third bedroom looks awkward and would have to be an ‘office’ doubt you could even fit a twin bed in that room from the looks of it

but this is a nice street, and the fact that its not actually ON the el tracks helps a lot

  5. This is a really nice place. I might even break my rule about living in a small condo building.

  6. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories from multiple friends who live in small condo buildings with 2-3 units. It doesn’t matter how nice the place is. There are thousands of things to disagree over, and not enough units for a representative democracy.

  7. 3 units plus at least one unit is a rental (google street view from August 2016 has a large “for rent” sign on 1st floor, from Domu no less) – no thanks!

  8. I love the pic of the lonely ottoman in his own room. This is a nice enough place if you aren’t picky, not a good functioning kitchen though.
