“Elegant Sophistication” in this River North 2-Bedroom Loft: 215 W. Illinois
This 2-bedroom loft in the Anchor Lofts at 215 W. Illinois in River North just came on the market.
The Anchor Lofts were built in 1923 and converted into lofts in 1986, which was probably among the first loft conversions in this neighborhood.
It has 18 units and garage parking.
Described in the listing as having “elegant sophistication,” this loft has been updated to 2018 tastes.
The floors are wide plank white oak floors stained gray.
It has exposed brick walls, which are painted white, and dark, almost black, beams throughout.
The kitchen has upscale finishes including a 60″ Wolfe oven, double dishwashers, white cabinets and a large quartz island. There’s also room for a kitchen table.
This is a rare loft in this building which has outdoor space as there’s a 7×10 deck off the kitchen.
The bathrooms also have white cabinets and updated finishes.
The loft has central air, a laundry room and one car garage parking is included.
This loft last sold 20 years ago, so it’s a rare offering for loft lovers.
The building, however, doesn’t appear to have a work out room or other amenities. Nor does it seem to have a doorman.
Listed at $1.195 million, are these features that buyers at this price point demand or do loft lovers have different standards?
Sharon Glickman at Baird & Warner has the listing. See the pictures here.

$1.2mm for those views? Pass. They really should’ve staged this place with some furniture & artwork. The desaturated scheme is overwhelming and makes the property look vacuous and depressing; like an an abandoned psych-ward. The kitchen is nice though.
Definitely not paying their fair share of property taxes (with these updates and close to sale price it’d be 1% of property value, HA!) Hopefully the next reassessment will bring that in line. 680k current assessed valuation is a joke.
Sabrina; I’m liking the new design so far!

Estimated 2018 Market Value$667,990
$680K is the appropriate price for this place. Nice, but no way no how a million dollar property or remotely close to it.
Its neither elegant nor sophisticated
Think Jan Terri could hold a rockin Christmas concert here
Looks like it might make an interesting office space for a small firm, but I wouldn’t want to live here. Maybe if there were furniture it would look more homey, but in these photos it seems very cold and austere. Not having any amenities like a doorman or an exercise room would be a no deal for me, though I understand not everyone wants that stuff, especially in a loft. I also don’t like looking directly into other buildings from every window. Do I see someone paying $1 million for this? I doubt it, but maybe different tastes will prevail.
Having trouble understanding the floor plan… posting one should be mandatory. That kitchen is definitely meant for cooking damn. Those views, not so much (depressing). Could not imagine paying $1M for this.
Well I definitely prefer this emptiness then junk in every corner. I think you can walk through and figure out if this place is for you. It’s an empty palette. However, a floor plan would be nice.
What are you guys talking about wrt views?
Looking into other buildings is the hip thing. Its what they show in all the cool movies
