Feels like a SFH in the Heart of the West Loop: A 3-Bedroom at 1109 W. Washington
This 3-bedroom in The Hayden at 1109 W. Washington in the West Loop came on the market in March 2023.
Built in 2019, The Hayden is a boutique elevator building designed by Booth Hansen Architects with 28 units and attached garage parking.
It does not appear to have any amenities other than door staff and a receiving room.
The listing says this 3163 square foot condo “feels like a single family home in the heart of the West Loop.”
It has private in-unit elevator access and a foyer.
There are hardwood floors throughout.
The kitchen has white Bentwood cabinetry, a 60″ Subzero fridge with a Subzero wine tower, a 48″ Wolf range, a built-in Wolf Espresso machine and a 10’4″ gray island finished with a Bianca Perla Quartzite countertop.
There are built-ins in the living room and a gas fireplace. The main living area also has a unique room with 3 walls of windows that is just labeled “other room” in the listing but is called a billiard room on the floor plan.
There is a nano wall which opens to a private covered terrace.
Each bedroom is en suite.
The primary bedroom is a suite with a walk-in-closet and a bathroom with a separate shower and spa style soaking tub.
The unit has an extensive tech package including Lutron shades and Creston Home Automation.
This unit has the features buyers look for including central air, washer/dryer in the unit and there are 2 side-by-side garage parking spaces included.
The listing says that the unit has “all custom built furnishings and design” and that the unit can be purchased with or without the furnishings.
Additionally, if you don’t want to purchase the unit, it appears to be available for rent at $13,900 per month.
Listed at $2.59 million, that’s $390,000 above the 2019 purchase price of $2.2 million.
The Hayden sold out quickly in 2018-2019. All the units are larger, family size units with 3 and 4 bedrooms. The building is also near the shops and restaurants of the West Loop, Randolph Street, Fulton Market and Greektown.
Is this unit a single family home alternative for those who want to live in the West Loop?
Jeffrey Proctor at @properties Christie’s has the listing. See the pictures and floor plan here.

It’s large and location is good, but not my style. Not sure there’s anything here that tells you you’re in a $2.6 million unit vs. a $1.5 mln unit, but that’s subjective, I realize. No amenities in building hurts, too.
Feels like a fishbowl. Close to many other buildings facing lots of windows.
“Feels like a fishbowl. Close to many other buildings facing lots of windows.”
West Loop neighborhood group has blocked the building of high rises so you’re unlikely to get many true “view” buildings. All the high rises are being built in Fulton Market.
But this neighborhood has clearly become the epicenter for the wealthy. A $7 million condo has gone under contract. It would be a new record for the neighborhood. These $2.5 million condos are now dime-a-dozen. It’s a million-dollar neighborhood now.
“West Loop neighborhood group has blocked the building of high rises so you’re unlikely to get many true “view” buildings.”
It’s really not about the view, but about the lack of privacy. I am surprised that it doesn’t bother others — it’d be reason enough for me to live elsewhere. A buyer of a $2.5M condo can certainly afford regular taxi fare to and from the office and/ or the nice restaurants in this area (which I assume is the main reason to live in west loop).
That’s a mighty big window to take a bath in front of.
“It’s really not about the view, but about the lack of privacy. I am surprised that it doesn’t bother others — it’d be reason enough for me to live elsewhere.”
But doesn’t every $2.5 million home in Lakeview or LP lack privacy too? You’re right up against the next door neighbor, for the most part. And ALL buildings pretty much lack privacy in the West Loop. You’re going to be looking into another building across the street in that entire neighborhood.
But I agree that these windows are bigger, industrial style windows which are wide open to everyone across the street. Are they tinted windows where you can see out but they can’t see in? I wonder.
“But doesn’t every $2.5 million home in Lakeview or LP lack privacy too? You’re right up against the next door neighbor, for the most part. ”
A lot of times builders will stagger the windows which helps. Also, there is a big difference between a house full of windows next door occupied by a family of 4, versus a condominium complex next door occupied by 40+ persons on the facing side.
Mostly peaceful

Good thing LL has no responsibility
Embarrassing for a wOrLD ClAsS cItY
“Good thing LL has no responsibility”
She has always taken responsibility. Against a lot of naysayers, she shut the park in the evenings to kids under 18 unless accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, the teens still want to gather somewhere and tend to do so near the subway in the Loop nearby. And social media allows the message about the gathering to go out to thousands of teens across the city.
This week was our first extremely warm, summer like weather, including in the evenings, and hundreds of teens gathered at the beaches and at Millennial Park.
It’s going to be an issue for Mayor Johnson this summer. He, too, released a statement. What will his solution be? We will see.
“She has always taken responsibility. Against a lot of naysayers, she shut the park in the evenings to kids under 18 unless accompanied by an adult. Unfortunately, the teens still want to gather somewhere and tend to do so near the subway in the Loop nearby. And social media allows the message about the gathering to go out to thousands of teens across the city.”
LOL
LL has said a lot of things but lacks the will to backup and enforce all her supposed tough talk. LL isnt solely to blame, KF is the other 1/2 of the problem
Hence you get what happened over the weekend
“It’s going to be an issue for Mayor Johnson this summer.”
We’ll have a front row seat for a great test case of whether Irving Kristol merely had a snappy quote, or an actually good point.

LL’s not taking questions today LOL
“LL has said a lot of things but lacks the will to backup and enforce all her supposed tough talk.”
Again, if you actually lived IN Chicago or knew even a shred about it, you would know that she actually took a lot of flack for closing down Millennial Park to the teens. She did it last year (or the year before? I lose track.) She put fencing around the park and made everyone go through a central checkpoint to get in. She also put in a requirement that all teens be accompanied by an adult but it was only in the evenings on the weekends.
The kids started gathering at the park last week on Wednesday. They’re not dumb. They know when the rules are in place, and when they aren’t. Lol. Lightfoot has a teenage daughter. She knows what is up.
Teens gather. They want to hang out. Stuff happens. It has been ever so. But how does the city keep it safe? Where can the teens go and have fun during the summer?
“Teens gather. They want to hang out. Stuff happens. It has been ever so. But how does the city keep it safe? Where can the teens go and have fun during the summer?”
Stuff happens? Yeah no.
Want to the beaches a lot and yeah, there would be an occasional fight, booze, etc but are you really trying to say that this is the norm?
You’re drunk and/or delusional
“Stuff happens? Yeah no.

Yep. Teens used to hang out at the McDonald’s on State, but have mostly been kicked out of there. In my youth, we hung out at the White Castle. The difference today is social media. They don’t just call their own group of friends and go hang out at the beach. They post it on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and then it’s not just their friends who show up. It’s the friends of the friends and 50 kids from the high school 5 miles away who are also bored. And then suddenly you have 1,000 teens all there, bored, and with nothing to do. Not a good mix.
Should they be busting up cars and what not? No. That’s why there were arrests. I’ve been driving by in the summer when I’ve seen hundreds of teens just hanging out there in the loop. It’s tough for the police but it’s not a crime to go to a park or to ride the subway.
But what will Mayor Johnson do about it this summer? We will see. Because it’s clearly going to be an issue. The teens are bored. By the way, many are saying the teens should “get a job.” The city of Chicago has a bunch of summer jobs available again this year and they are taking applications. But most of those won’t be at 9 pm at night, which is when they tend to gather.
“You’re drunk and/or delusional”
Whenever you accuse me of being drunk, everyone on this blog knows it really means YOU are. I hope you get help JohnnyU. It’s out there.
Sabrina raises a good point that the groups of teen gatherings are exponentially larger due to social media.
I guess the good news is that there are not many private places for such gatherings to take place.
So I’d propose implementing a 10PM curfew for teens under 18. This could be enforced by prohibiting access to public parks, beaches, and the CTA.
The city could prohibit restaurants and stores from selling anything to minors after a certain hour.
Teens can either stay at home or bend the rules by having small gatherings that fly under the radar.
It’s kind of like the “no alcohol at the beach” rule. Everyone does it, but the reason things are not out of control is because people are forced to consume discreetly.

So now were at well not “It has been ever so.” phase…
Its not social media causing the problems, thats a weak excuse. Great America & the beaches back in the day had huge groups of kids in the summer and I dont recall anything like this happening.
I’d like to see the social media postings, and see if it was going to be “active”
There was a much bigger FAFO with the CPD back in the 90’s.
teens gathering is one thing, teens gathering causing chaos, shooting each other, lighting cars on fire, and beating up a woman is another.
“teens gathering is one thing, teens gathering causing chaos, shooting each other, lighting cars on fire, and beating up a woman is another.”
The police made 15 arrests marco. What else do you want them to do? If you break the law, you will be arrested.
“So now were at well not “It has been ever so.” phase…”
Says someone who has NO children. This is obvious.
Just go watch any of the dozens of films Hollywood has made about teenagers going back 75+ years.
“Great America & the beaches back in the day had huge groups of kids in the summer and I dont recall anything like this happening.”
Ba ha ha. The police have been at Great America nearly every year for decades. It was really bad a few years ago and they had a shooting in the parking lot.
You’re just a bitter old dude JohnnyU who thinks this generation is any different than any others. They’re not. BUT, social media is incredibly different. They’re able to plan, get the word out, and get thousands of kids from all over Chicago to go somewhere at the same time. And they DO show up. It just wasn’t possible in that same way before smartphones and social media.
The Chicago police actively monitor twitter and Facebook. Pre-pandemic they would send the police downtown to “meet” the hundreds of kids riding the subway to the meeting location. Sometimes they would call the subway driver and tell them not to stop where all the teens wanted to get off.
Intersection takeovers and teen riots, sounds like the city is really doing great handling its biggest issues lately
“Intersection takeovers and teen riots, sounds like the city is really doing great handling its biggest issues lately”
This was happening during Rahm’s time as mayor as well. It’s nothing new. But we haven’t seen such a big group of teens surging to the downtown in 6 months.
“The police made 15 arrests marco. What else do you want them to do? If you break the law, you will be arrested.”
LOL. A whole 15 you say
The other 1/2 of the equation is how many will be charged or have their cases dismissed
“Just go watch any of the dozens of films Hollywood has made about teenagers going back 75+ years.”
So now were using Hollywood as a point of reference?
Whens the great Footloose dace off?
Clownshoes
“Ba ha ha. The police have been at Great America nearly every year for decades. It was really bad a few years ago and they had a shooting in the parking lot.”
Wow 1 shooting the the parking lot Vs how many shootings that occur in these gatherings?

Not old or bitter, but I can look at these events with a sober mind.
Funny GA & the beaches were always packed in the summer and this wasnt the norm in the 90’s. Maybe it was that way in the 60’s & 70’s when you were a teen.
“The Chicago police actively monitor twitter and Facebook. Pre-pandemic they would send the police downtown to “meet” the hundreds of kids riding the subway to the meeting location. Sometimes they would call the subway driver and tell them not to stop where all the teens wanted to get off.”
Why arent they doing this post pandemic?
Look you want to make excuses about this, thats your right but dont piss on my leg and tell me its raining.
Its really funny coming from someone thats afraid to walk the streets at night
“If you break the law, you will be arrested.”
So, they arrested that whole group who was menacing/attacking the woman in the video?
If so, that looked like about 15 people–no one else was arrested? Were those the same people doing *all* of the damage to cars? And the shooting?
“What else do you want them to do?”
more police presence, not letting them out in a day?
“more police presence, not letting them out in a day?”
There were plenty of police there marco. And there’s no reason to hold people for more than a day for most non-violent crimes. And these were mostly kids as well.
“If so, that looked like about 15 people–no one else was arrested? Were those the same people doing *all* of the damage to cars? And the shooting?”
According to the media, they arrested 15 people.
“Wow 1 shooting the the parking lot Vs how many shootings that occur in these gatherings?”
These gatherings have been happening for years. Same as at Great America. Teens will be teens either in Chicago or the suburbs. Anyone who says otherwise is just telling themselves a lie that “these gatherings” didn’t happen in the 1980s and 90s as well. And yes, some did turn violent then, and now.
And someone saying it’s different now, doesn’t have kids or know any teens or young people on a personal level in their life (grandchild, godchild, niece or nephew.)

Gatherings yes
Mob Violence and shootings – No f’ing way
Either the booze has messed with your memory or you’re making shit up.
“So now were using Hollywood as a point of reference?”
Been happening for a long, long time. Just go watch West Side Story JohnnyU. I don’t know what else to tell you. Teens get bored. They want to gather.
The city will enforce the curfew, which will be 10 pm, and will enforce the rules about going with adults at the park on the weekends between 6 pm and 11 pm. They will also check bags at the beaches. But if the kids show up anyway, then they will just hang out near the El in the loop and really have nowhere to go and nothing to do. Then what?
“LOL. A whole 15 you say”
That’s quite a bit, actually. How many were arrested at the brawl at the White Sox game over the weekend among adults?
“The other 1/2 of the equation is how many will be charged or have their cases dismissed”
Why does this concern you when you don’t live in Chicago, nor the suburbs, nor even in the state of Illinois? I don’t understand your obsession with Chicago. Truly.
What a waste of time and energy. How sad to live in such negativity for your life. There’s a lot of things going right in Chicago right now but it’s still a fragile recovery from the pandemic. Like every city in America, crime and violence is up. We have to work as a community to make changes and provide opportunities for everyone to join in on the recovery.
Chicago is finally coming out on the other side of the pandemic. Time to keep up the momentum.
“According to the media, they arrested 15 people.”
You also stated:
“If you break the law, you will be arrested.”
So, you think that 15 people caused all that chaos?
If it was only 15 people who broke the law–and they all got arrested–what are we even talking about here?
“go watch West Side Story”
You mean Romeo and Juliet?
It’s been happening since Elizabethan times, JU! How fucking old are you that you don’t know!
“That’s quite a bit, actually. How many were arrested at the brawl at the White Sox game over the weekend among adults?”
You are comparing the drunken fight at the Sox game to this?
LOL You come up with the dumbest counter examples when wrong
There’s a lot of things going right in Chicago right now but it’s still a fragile recovery from the pandemic.
What happened to Chicago = Stronk?!?
Thought it was going to be like the roaring 20’s all over again?
“There were plenty of police there Marco”
only after the fact. there’s barely any police on street corners anymore. I was just in another huge international city last week and there were police on every corner.
“police on every corner”
You willing to pay the extra taxes that would cost?
“only after the fact. there’s barely any police on street corners anymore. I was just in another huge international city last week and there were police on every corner.”
This is incorrect. The police are literally stationed just about every 2 blocks on the Mag Mile and even on Rush. They walk it as well. They hang out in the Starbucks. They ride the police horses down it in the summer.
There are usually quite a few police outside Millennial Park as well but this was a rare heatwave in the middle of April that I don’t think many were prepared for.
