Forget New Construction, Get a Lincoln Park Greystone Unit Instead: 1940 N. Cleveland
We’ve chattered about a lot of new construction luxury condos over the years but what about the luxury vintage greystone unit such as this one at 1940 N. Cleveland in Lincoln Park?
Built in 1890, this unit is on the top floor and has some of its vintage features intact including a wood burning fireplace.
It also has a full-sized dining room and an office.
The kitchen has been renovated with white custom cabinets, granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances and a wine fridge.
The bathrooms are marble.
It has all the bells and whistles buyers are looking for including central air and in-unit washer/dryer. It even has the rare 2 car parking.
It is listed just $5,000 over the 2007 purchase price.
Megan Brown at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

A walk-up in this market at over 300 per square foot/ perhaps with 2 car spaces. Curb appeal for the top floor is a minus
I like this place mucho!!!! but dont know if old groove would like to navigate a 4 floor walk up with a bags of groceries a stroller and a kids all in two hands
I think it’s lovely and tastefully appointed. Personally can’t afford but think the price is good for this area and 2 spaces.
Nice place. I think I looked at the unit right below it a number of years ago. At the price however, it would be a tough sell for me. Imagine having to sell in 3 years or even 5. Could you even break even?
Actually, this is on the third floor, not the top floor (the 4th) – there is a garden unit which is listed as #1.
This was previously on the market in early ’09. I remember trying to go to an open house here – apparently, the open house was canceled at the last minute, with no notice to anyone or sign outside. I thought they had sold the place but something else seems to have happened (maybe the realtor had the audacity to suggest dropping the price?).
Nice place. But the 2004 price is more like it.
soooooo
Do we think the ’04 owner did the kitchen/bath renos?
Nice looking place, great location. Can’t imagine paying that much for what I’d get.
for over 500k, you think you would get a decent master bath eh?
nice, warm home though.
Gorgeous place, and great location, but do both bedrooms have a door leading to the outside? It’s so hard to tell without a floorplan, but it appears that they do. That’s such a strange feature on many vintage places, and was pretty close to a dealbreaker for me when I bought if the door led out to a deck with shared stairs (not just a balcony). I guess I’m also lazy because I can’t imagine paying over $500K and having to walk up two or three flights of stairs every single day just to get inside my place.
Groove77 you and I have the same taste. Please let me know when you find an almost perfect, cast-off place south of the 400K mark, would ya? That way I can stop having to read all my realtor’s listings.
Beautiful. Great kitchen!
And we walk up 3 flights (with a 1 year old) many times a day. It’s no prob at all… plus we have great legs, haha!
hahahahahahahaha. Memo to seller: the ponzi scheme is over. There are no more greater fools.

ALT,
I think we might be looking in different hoods, but if i come across on i will let you know.
I’ve seen it and the pictures make it look much nicer than it is. Kitchen very small and crowded. Master bedroom feels like it was just tacked on (awkward space) and second bedroom ridiculously small.
Groove, I was joking (kind of) but am flexible on the ‘hood! 🙂

You know me i push the NW side with hardcore Bias. 400k- can get you ALOT around there.
2004 price is more accurate. Purchase price needs to be south of $500k.
