Get a 3-Bedroom in the Gold Coast for $55,000 Under the 2002 Price: 1234 N. Dearborn
This 3-bedroom at 1234 N. Dearborn in the Gold Coast has been on the market since January 2013.
It’s the top floor unit in the front building of a 6-unit association. (Remember the coach house in back that was bank owned back in 2008? See the pictures of it here.)
It appears to be on the fourth floor of the building and the listing explictly says that there is NO elevator in the building.
At 2157 square feet on one level, it has a separate dining room but no family room.
The kitchen has maple cabinets, black counter tops and stainless steel appliances.
While the unit has central air and washer/dryer in the unit, it doesn’t have deeded parking. The listing says the seller is willing to pay for 1 year parking in the neighborhood.
The unit has been reduced $59,000 since January and is now listed $55,000 under the 2002 price.
Is this a deal?
Eileen Brennan at Prudential Rubloff has the listing. See the pictures here.

From the decor I thought some old lady lived here, then I saw the baby’s room with a crib. Is that Poppy or Puppy?
“From the decor I thought some old lady lived here”
thought the same thing but realized its a 3rd floor walk up
“then I saw the baby’s room with a crib”
my mom and mother-in-law both put in baby rooms at their place when my wife squirted out our son.
“Is that Poppy or Puppy”
in the big picture is there even a difference?
Lack of onsite parking is rough. I would not want to park in a public garage alone, late at night. Maybe a male gay couple or a single man could live here and be OK. It is a very nice place.
The next door neighbor is Chabad Lubavitch of the Gold Coast.
2005 buyer WAY overpaid! Even for Gold Coast.
My Easter weekend in Tunisia 20 years ago was the same way. No night clubs or booze or whatever. Everybody hung out in the medina all day because there was nothing else to do. Carthage was pretty cool to visit on Easter day though. No body there. I had the ruins all to myself.
‘but did they really name their girl “Poppy”?!?’
Apparently quite popular in England.
Not sure where Helmet was hanging out in Morocco, but if you know the right people it’s very easy to get alcohol there. Shit, we met a guy higher up in the government who has vineyards. Of course the wine is for “export”.
“I can see why he feels inferior to them”
??? I feel inferior to nobody and feel sorry for those that do, like people who change their surnames to hide their ancestry, etc.
Toured this place. Pretty large, but the floor plan is less than ideal which makes a fair portion of the space difficult to use. For example, the kitchen is really disjointed with an island set far away from the all the counters and appliances, directly in the middle of the space that you need to walk through to get to the master bedroom (which is at the rear of the house, directly behind the kitchen). And if I remember correctly, the washer/dryer is in the dining room. No views to speak of from the bedrooms. And the building needs some work – there were big gaps between the bricks when you looked at the side of the unit from the balcony.
