  1. This one takes the concept of “kitchen in the living room” to new extremes. It’s so convenient to be able to open the fridge without leaving the couch, right?

What were the architects thinking? I understand the idea of an open floor plan, but does that mean we all have to be on top of each other?

Meanwhile, the MBR – where most people are unconscious most of the time they’re in it – dwarfs every other room in the place. Makes no sense.

  2. #2 also for sale, and has a floorplan in the listing:

    https://www.redfin.com/IL/Chicago/3855-N-Southport-Ave-60613/unit-2/home/12773202

24×12 MBR includes a mediocre closet and a lot of dumb ‘hallway’ space. Room layout is *bad*.

Feature unit probably the same, except the 2d bedroom in #2 split into 2 bedrooms.

Never, ever live in a building with a dry cleaners. Studies have shown there is a significant increased risk of cancer associated with the dry cleaning chemicals and, people who live in these buildings, have an increased risk of kidney and other cancers.

  5. Matt,

Does this mean it’s dangerous even if you live on the 24th floor and the dry cleaners is in the lobby? That was our situation for about 5 years back in the 90’s and early 00’s.

The key is “plant on premises” which is basically never the case any more.

The amount of residual chemical on clothes once returned to a drop-off/pick-up point (which is what most of them are in Chicago) is negligible.

  7. Wow that layout is rough. The couch is basically against the island and you’d have to look up on an odd angle to watch TV, ugh.
