Get Your Marble Floors: 161 E. Chicago
The Olympia Centre, at 161 E. Chicago in Streeterville, is a 63 story high rise that was completed in 1985.
It is a full service condo building with washer/dryers in the units, parking and an amenities floor. It is best known as the Neiman Marcus building, because the store anchors it on Michigan Avenue.
There are units of varying sizes in the building. This one, in particular, struck me because the entire unit has marble floors.
Unit #44G: 1 bedroom, 1 bath, approximately 975 square feet
- Sold in June 1999 for $290,000
- Sold in April 2004 for $424,500
- Sold in November 2006 for $450,000
- Currently listed for $450,000 (not sure if parking is included or not)
- Assessment of $500 a month
- Baird & Warner has the listing
While marble tile looks great in bathrooms, this is just WAY too much of a good thing. My feet get cold just looking at the pictures, and putting area rugs on the floor is likely to look really strange.
If you add some furniture, the marble floors won’t overwhelm the room.
Wow, that marble is way overdone! Even with furniture, I think it’d be too much.
That price wouldn’t include parking — my parents also have a “G” tier unit in the building and parking is leased for an additional fee.
Agreed re: cold feet, which is also how I feel about the $1.5 million mansion at the Belvedere from the earlier post. There’s another one in 512 N. McClurg with the same thing.
In addition to “cold feet,” these units scream “I have bad allergies.” I think only those people who are super paranoid about dust and have serious sinus problems live in places with all-stone floors. They look like they could be hosed out and hermetically sealed.
Benjy: Thanks for the info about the parking situation. I couldn’t figure out if it was deeded parking or leased from the listing.
The marble is something I would expect in a desert setting like Dubai or Iraq, not so much in Chicago…
I think it looks gorgeous! With the appropriate wall color, solid color area rugs, and plush furniture–would actually look quite elegant. Very clean, and low maintenance for busy person–great for those with a pet.
