She doesn’t have to sell: 3813 N. Whipple

Thanks to the tipster who sent me the listing information on Linda Rizzuto’s house.  She is the woman in the Chicago Tribune article who said: Linda Rizzuto, for one, said she isn’t inclined to come down from the $444,900 she’s asking for the Northwest Side home where she has lived 17 years, though not one […]

The Chicago Tribune has more details on the 34% drop in sales in January in the 9-county Chicagoland area.  It was the worst plunge since January 1998. Downtown Chicago Apartment Rents Fall 4.3% in 4th Quarter

Some more good news for renters. Crain’s is reporting that downtown apartment rents fell 4.3% in the fourth quarter, the largest quarterly decline since 2001. According to the Appraisal Research Counselors, vacancies also dropped to 91.3% from 94.6% in the third quarter. Crain’s is reporting a 36% drop in downtown condo sales in 2007. Sales have fallen 55% since 2005, which was a record year, but are around the pace of 2001-2003. None of this is a surprise to those of us who chatter on this site.  But some of the stats in the article are rather startling. […]

Washington DC Craigslist Ad: Telling it like it is

This post isn’t about Chicago real estate but I just had to chatter about it.  It seems to be a hoax (as someone told me he looked up the address and said it doesn’t exist) but the writer certainly has a sense of humor out in the DC area. From Craigslist DC: Overpriced Condo with Great Views Reply […]

Tribune: It’s a Buyer’s Market for Condos Downtown

The Chicago Tribune addresses what we’ve been chattering about for several months: it’s a buyer’s market for condos downtown. In “Rising Expectations,” buyers and developers discuss the incentives that are being offered to move product as the market has slowed. They interview a 20-something  looking for a “deal.” With sales down sharply in 2007 but […]

Chicago Housing Market: More Luxury Condos in the Gold Coast

I don’t know how many of you saw this blurb in David Roeder’s column in the Sun-Times yesterday: For months, people living near the southwest corner of Clark and Chestnut wondered about the hole in the ground. The owner, Lubavitch Chabad, planned a Center for Jewish Life on the site, but couldn’t raise the money. […]

Some Chicago Area Housing Stats for November 2007

November seems like ages ago.  We all want to know what is happening now. But this is the most recent data I’ve seen reported on the Chicago housing market.  It’s better than no data at all. From the Chicago Tribune: Times have changed. The inventory of homes on the market in the Chicago area swelled […]

The State of Chicago’s Condo Market

The Chicago Tribune reported on the Chicago housing market today.  The news regarding the downtown condo market isn’t all that positive. The Chicago metropolitan region “isn’t as bad as Florida and California, ground zero in the housing recession, but we have the same problems,” said economist Diane Swonk of Mesirow Financial. The ills ailing the […]
