Jenny’s Dream: A 1-Bedroom with 2 Full Baths: 3823 N. Ashland in Southport
This 1-bedroom at 3823 N. Ashland in the Southport neighborhood of Lakeview recently came on the market.
Built in 2008, this is a 22-unit elevator building with a heated parking garage.
This unit is on the second floor and has luxury finishes such as crown molding and wainscoting.
It has hardwood floors throughout and a balcony that appears to look out on Ashland.
The kitchen has wood cabinets, granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances, except for the refrigerator, which is missing.
It’s a rare 1-bedroom that has 2 full bathrooms. If you can’t live with just one full bathroom, this one is for you.
The master bathroom has a steam shower with rain head and body spray as well as a double vanity with granite counter tops.
The unit also has an actual laundry room which measures 6×8 with a side-by-side washer/dryer.
It has the other features buyers look for including central air and heated garage parking is included.
This unit is a reminder that the housing bust is still not completely over.
A lis pendens foreclosure was filed in both 2010 and 2011 but it didn’t revert back to the lender until October 2017.
This is now a Fannie Mae HomePath property.
It has been listed for the same price as the 2008 bubble price sale, at $349,000.
Will it get this price in this location 10 years later?
Jason Reiner at Solid Realty Services has the listing. See the pictures here.

Don’t think I’d consider that Wainscoting
Pet peeve, put the electrical panel in the utility room.
JAN TERRI SEZ FAILED!!! LOLZ!
A true one bedroom for the couple with gastrointestinal problems.
It’s a great location if you spend a lot of time at Ashland Tire and Auto.
I’m gonna say it’s too far north and too far from the lake for Jenny.
Don’t think I’d consider that Wainscoting
If you want to split hairs it’s more chair railing or paneling or simply molding. but wainscoting is probably a more familiar term.
Pet peeve, put the electrical panel in the utility room.
I tried to get my panel moved when i upgraded. It would have cost more money than I wanted to spend. Basically the electrician kept raising the price until it became cost prohibative because he didn’t want to do the extra work.
“simply molding”
That’s all it is. There isn’t any panel there, just molding on drywall. Much as a trompe l’oeil sky on the ceiling is not the same as a skylight, this isn’t wainscoting, regardless of the relative familiarity of the terms.
This was “Jenny’s Dream” in September. She shot it down due to structural issues.

Thought of Jenny the other day while strolling through an open house (the house was almost entirely moved-out of/unfurnished, but the sellers left some religious items on the wall).
“A true one bedroom for the couple with gastrointestinal problems.”
Yes. Lol.
That’s why it would be Jenny’s dream. (In reality, she wants a townhouse, not a 1-bedroom condo.) But at least this has 2 bathrooms for just the one bedroom.
I like that this place has two bathrooms. I love the idea of “his and hers” bathrooms.
On the other hand, I hate this location and am not a fan of the molding.
The location is not ideal for commuting to the loop. But I lived in the 1600 block of Grace for years back in the 90’s and it was an awesome location.
On street parking was super easy. Friends would all park at my place and we would walk the six blocks to Wrigley!
Southport was nice but not nearly as hip or cool. Southport Lanes, School Yard, and Schubas were on our favorites list. We had a washer dryer in our basement but I still did all my laundry at the SAGA launder bar!
Man, those were some fun days!
don’t think this is a bad location. I do however think that at 350 its over priced. Will likely move at 300.
