Lincoln Park Vintage 3-Bedroom with Unique Space in the Duplex Down: 2227 N. Bissell
This 3-bedroom vintage unit at 2227 N. Bissell in Lincoln Park appears to be a regular duplex down property.
But the listing says it has a “unique” 1000-square foot kitchen, bedroom, den and bathroom on the lower level.
The property is not on the El side of the street.
The main level has all three bedrooms.
The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and is open to the dining room. There are hardwood floors throughout.
The downstairs kitchen has white cabinets and black appliances.
Could this make a perfect in-law suite?
Kimberly Broznowksi Powers at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures here.

It always baffles me why people would not spend the $25 at home depot to get rid of the “hollywood” light fixtures in their bathrooms. Granted I can do the same if I were to buy the place but, those lights just make a place look cheap cheap cheap.
@ Onlooker: because then people would know you have a $25 dollar light fixture from home depot lol.
Alex, to me a light fixture found in the trash is better than those Hollywood light fixtures. Maybe even a hole in the wall is better allowing me to pick out my own without the hollywood lights distorting my view =)
Who cares about the light fixtures!
This property is totally confusing. Why does it have two kitchens?
Did the developer try to pawn the basement apartment off as legal, and then got busted? I understand having a bar with sink and fridge on the lower level, but a full kitchen?? Someone help me out here.
HOA fees are based on your sq-footage. So is this 1000sq-ft factored into the HOA structure. If that basement was not finished as part of the original developement then there is potential for some conflict between the owners and who should be paying what amount in assessments.
This must be the continuation of “two kitchen” week from last week 🙂
All I have to say about this place & the price is WTF.
I do love Bissel St. here, one of the coolest “neighborhood” streets in all of lincoln park
@ dahliachi – I thought it was obvious that I did. Everyone has their “thing” whether it be floors, trim, appliances, parking, etc. Light fixtures are just one of my things. Sorry to bore you, it’s a blog…….
I agree the street is great there! I do wonder how that lower level works. I am assuming you access it from inside Unit 1 and that it doesn’t have its own exterior entrance? I guess if you are looking for a nanny suite or in-law suite, want to live in LP and can’t afford a SFH, this might be a nice set up for you. Just be prepared to let the nanny/ mom-in-law use your car to cart around the kiddies since you only have parking for 1.
someone with a ccrd account want to pull the Condo Dec. and let us know if there’s any mention of this mystery basement unit?
I have “Hollywood” lights in my bathroom (a rental). I never knew enough to be embarrassed about it, but now I am. Thanks.
I love my hollywood lights, nice and bright!
please! another agent horribly overpricing a property! what are these agents thinking?? i viewed this property and it’s easily $150,000 overpriced. what are these agents smoking??!!!!
My friend lives on the exact same street as this place. The el noise is HORRIFYINGLY LOUD. Forget about ever having a window open in the back of this place.
What are they thinking? They’re thinking that with a $525k mortgage the sellers can’t really price much lower. They’re well on their way to losing a portion if not most of their $60k down payment and the additional $15k they dropped into the mortgage when they refi’d. Their mortgage with taxes has got to be over $3,000 a month! That’s insanity. Would you pay $3,000 a month to live here?
Unless of course these sellers have some sort of ARM or IO then the payment is only $3,000 a month, not over $3,000.
