Loft Living in the Heart of Bucktown: 1855 N. Damen

Some people wouldn’t like living on one of the main arteries like Lincoln, Armitage, Fullerton or Damen.

Others would love that they can walk out their door and have a handful of restaurants at their fingertips.

You can’t get more in the heart of Bucktown than the lofts at 1855 N. Damen. This is a slightly older conversion building with 14 foot high ceilings and exposed brick.

It actually has a woodburning fireplace.

  1. So where would you store the firewood? Seriously. I am thinking of repairing my chimney in my vintage unit, so that it can burn wood fires again. The thing that has made me hesitate is the question of where to put a 1/4 cord of wood. I have a small-ish storage space in my basement, but even if I kept the wood off the ground and not touching the walls I expect the others in my building would go nuts (fire hazard, termites–which we’ve only just recently gotten under control). What did they do in the “old days”?

buy an old trunk, line it w/plastic. make sure you don’t bring in bugs.

nice unit, but for $400+ I’d want newer bathrooms/kitchen….but you do get to live next to Hot Chocolate….yum.

I suspect that there was regular delivery by horse cart, as with so many other things.

  4. Unit has charm but I agree with the other post-er. 400+ to live on a GROUND floor across from Lemmings and you’d still need to re-do the bathrooms/kitchen. Seriously….
