Looking for a 4-Bedroom SFH in Lakeview With “Underground Tunnels”? 3526 N. Marshfield
This 4-bedroom single family home at 3526 N. Marshfield in Lakeview just came on the market.
The listing describes it as a “historic prohibition era home once owned by a local celeb.”
(Bonus points for anyone who knows who that “local celeb” is. Hint: she sold the house in 1994 and you’ve seen her on tv.)
Built in 1889, it is on an irregular lot measuring 27.2×73.5x60x51.5 (I think???).
The listing says the house is being sold “as-is.”
All four bedrooms are on the second level and there is a family room in the basement.
The kitchen has dark cabinets and white appliances as well as a kitchen island.
The listing also says there are “ornately carved faces” on the exterior brick and “underground tunnels.” Alas, there are NO pictures of the tunnels in the listing (why not? The agent shouldn’t tease us like that.)
The house has central air and 1-car parking (I don’t know if it’s a parking spot or a garage or what).
And, in case you’re wondering, the house is well north of the Brown Line El so that is not a factor.
Compared to the townhouses and duplex downs in the neighborhood, is this a deal for a single family home?
David Bovyn at Kale Realty has the listing. See the pictures here.

Alison Rosati….big deal…and that was nearly 20 years ago!
From satelite images it looks like it is outdoor parking not a garage and the pictures of the inside are awful. While I am curious about the tunnel, with the “as-is” condition, odd looking interior pictures and no garage I think a townhome may be more desirable especially since this house still is attached.
I’d be much more impressed with “above-ground tunnels” then these underground tunnels….I mean…that’s such a *common* tunnel
I wish the exterior was covered in those hamster tubes.
Is this really a single family house? It looks like it’s attached to the other building….kind of like Eng and Chang.
I love the exterior of this home…although Sabrina’s picture is far less appealling with those “For Rent” signs everywhere.
“an irregular lot measuring 27.2×73.5x60x51.5 (I think???)”
Really looks like it is 27.2×73.5 at the front, and then 8.6 x 51.5 back to the alley–so you have a driveway that two cars easily fit in tandem on, but not really enough space to even put up a carport.
I also looked it up & I agree it is the Allison formerly known as Rosati. Years ago I looked at a similar situation: an apartment building on NEC Seminary & Roscoe and adjacent east is frame sfh. Apparently the builder of the apartment building lived in the sfh and connected its radiators via overhead pipe to apartment’s boiler, which allowed owner to transfer his cost of heat into a deduction against apartment income. It would have saved energy if he had routed that pipe underground – is that the case here? I looked on aerial and the overhead pipe on Roscoe is long gone
What the Fach is a Mini Mansion?
Pretty cool place, if all is on the up and up i dont see why this wouldn’t sell for 500k?
your kind of out a yard here and from the agents pictures it comes with a bike. I love arched doorways and doors. I am 100% digging that kitchen island.
made me look…and kinda agree
” I am 100% digging that kitchen island.”
A mini-mansion is like jumbo shrimp.
I walk by here nearly everyday. It’s definitely been on and off the market many times since the last sale in 1994 (even if they didn’t list on the MLS). It’s an odd place as it is connected to that apartment building. Great neighborhood for sure, but I don’t see this fetching more than 495
“What the Fach is a Mini Mansion?”
I believe in many circles it’s referred to as a “house.” Although even that is a stretch here as the thing appears to be connected to an apartment building.
And a jumbo shrimp is a misnomer for prawns : )
“A mini-mansion is like jumbo shrimp.”
You guys dont know where the tunnels lead too, so the “mini mansion” may not be a typo or embellishment
If the tunnel leads to the building next door (and you get that building too…), it is a true mansion not a mini one. It’d be even better if the tunnel lead to the el station. An indoor commute to the train would be nice in the winter!
also what are the flood risks for said tunnels?
I do agree, the pictures are awful, very dark also – no pics of the bathrooms?
This place doesn’t look like it’s had a whole lot of updating done lately except maybe the floors and some paint…..great nabe tho and altho attached to the other building, cute from the outside!
I would think Mini Mansion would be 6000 sq ft +
Saying..
“as is” + faces in tunnels = haunted. good luck!
“This place doesn’t look like it’s had a whole lot of updating done lately except maybe the floors and some paint”
But it is……”rehabbed”! Whoever wrote this listing had to be smoking something……rehabbed, mini-mansion, former celebrity, etc…etc…
Well, you do have some good schools around here (Hamilton, St. Andrew’s, several pre-schools/day care centers) and it’s a nice, healthy walk to the Shrine at Addison + Clark. Plus some interesting shopping emporia along Lincoln.
““as is” + faces in tunnels = haunted. good luck!”
a real agent could spin that into a 100k higher listing price 🙂
Mini – mansion = jumbo shrimp – Russ that is true gold!
Goes with the mini celebrity. Like Allison but it’s a stretch to think that someone would pay a premium to live in her old place. No value was added by that statement.
