Looking for a Brick and Timber Downtown Loft? A Big 1-Bedroom at 728 W. Jackson
This 1-bedroom in the Haberdasher Square Lofts at 728 W. Jackson in the West Loop came on the market in June 2015.
Haberdasher is a full service building with 220 units and a parking garage. Half the building has timber lofts and half is concrete.
It is a corner southeast facing loft with all of the features loft lovers look for including 12 foot timber ceilings, exposed brick and 12 huge 9 foot industrial windows on 2 sides of the unit.
Originally, this unit was a 2-bedroom but the second bedroom was converted into office space (you can see the half wall in the pictures.)
It has the coveted two bathrooms, instead of just 1 or 1.5 baths normally found in large 1-bedroom units.
The kitchen has what looks like stainless cabinets, stainless steel appliances and black counter tops.
There is carpet in the main living space.
It has all the features buyers look for including washer/dryer in the unit, central air and heated garage parking so you never have to dig your car out of the snow again.
It is listed for $20,000 under its 2006 sales price.
Is this a deal in this super hot market?
Mohammed Khan at TriView Property has the listing. See the pictures here.

reasonable, needs updates but good space if you don’t mind the highway right there
that mosaic tile is hideous, kitchen even looks sort of nice if you could rip that garbage out, bathrooms could use a small refresh they look practically vintage. At least the realtor included parking in the price, I HATE when they try and play that parking game
I like the bathroom to bedroom ratio. Those tiles fill me with dread just thinking about cleaning that grout.
I knew we chatted about this building before

I think the area west of the river, east of the freeway is one of the lamest residential locations in the GZ. Not sure why I think this, even though it’s closer to the Loop, the “real” West Loop is west of Halsted. This little pocket is even more lame than the area of River North west of LaSalle, east of Orleans
So you prefer
Rock n’ Roll McDonalds
Ed Debevics
Hard Rock Cafe
Rainforest Cafe
Portillos
Walgreens
to places like
Oak & Char
Bavette’s
Kinmont
Green Door
Mr. Beef or Al’s if you prefer
Union
uh ok lol
oh dammit I forgot Ed’s is west of LaSalle, thankfully its getting the wrecking ball
“Oak & Char
Bavette’s
Kinmont
Green Door
Mr. Beef or Al’s if you prefer
Union”
Those places are west of the River and east of the Kennedy???
Decent loft with good plan. Truly works best as a one bedroom though as there is no door or privacy on the main bedroom.space. Our loft was a 3 bedroom with a similar setup on the master. We made it work with the kiddies while they were young but when adults (in-laws or friends) stayed over it was always a bit awkward.
Hope there is hardwood under the living room carpet. While practical I think that on the timber loft its a lame finish.
Agree with Helmet (about the location!) – Lived next door to this building for a year at “The Edge” on Des Plaines & Adams. Area is depressing after 6pm, nothing to do unless you absolutely love Greek food and Philly’s Best. Walk over to Randolph is nice in the summer but not in the brutal winters. Is that transient hotel still on Jackson & Halsted?
