Love Vintage? A 2000 Sq Ft East Lakeview 3-Bedroom: 2910 N. Pine Grove
This 3-bedroom vintage unit at 2910 N. Pine Grove in East Lakeview just came on the market.
If it looks familiar to some of you (and how could that beautiful den not look familiar?) that’s because we chattered about it 7 years ago, in 2011.
The unit finally sold after being on the market for 2 1/2 years.
See our chatter, and some old listing pictures, here.
Here’s one of the 2011 comments from Laura, Crib Chatter’s expert on vintage units, which is interesting to read now with the benefit of hindsight:
“Probably dropped the price as the result of an appraisal. I’m sure the inspection didn’t find anything wrong with the place that isn’t wrong with just about every building in this age bracket.
I feel like this buyer got a very good deal but who knows at this point? The “recovery” is losing steam and Case-Schiller is predicting that prices will drop another 25%. Not sure I believe it, but there is no question that middle-class professional incomes are dropping along with everyone else’s.
It’s the receding tide that leaves everybody stranded but the people who are getting the advantage of all the bailouts and subsidies.”
Remember, Chicago prices didn’t bottom until 2012.
If you recall, this unit has 9 foot ceilings with crown moldings and a limestone gas fireplace in the living room.
There are dark hardwood floors throughout.
The listing says it has a Chef’s kitchen with Viking and Bosch appliances.
It has in-unit washer/dryer but there’s no central air, just window units, and there’s no deeded parking. The listing says there’s transferrable covered leased parking at 525 W. Oakdale.
This building was constructed in 1917 by architect Roy France. It has 26 units.
This unit has come back on the market 7 years later for $185,000 more than the 2011 sale, at $575,000.
Will this unit sell more quickly this time now that the economy is booming?
Nicholas Haubrich at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures and floor plan here.

“There are dark hardwood floors throughout.”
why leave the original maple floors in the kitchen and have newer oak floors though out the space.
I love this place, except that parking in this area is a disaster.
lack of parking/central air kill this for me. but otherwise a really nice space. to echo marco, im not sure what they were thinking leaving the original hardwood in the kitchen. will be a PIA for the new owner to match that floor to the rest of the house.
I love this building and have spent a lot of time in it as a friend lived her for many years. Her unit had this same gracious layout and beautiful vintage detail. The third bedroom really felt more like an extension of the kitchen — my friend use it for storage — as it was originally a maid’s room. The building has a side yard with communal grills (or at least it did as of 2005).
I’ve been in a unit in this building that had Space Pac so it is possible to have central A/C. If the lack of parking is an issue than a vintage condo in this location is just not for you.
I like this place but in todays market it doesn’t check the must haves for many buyers
-No CA
-Not “Open Concept”
-No En Suite Master
The layout doesnt really fit 2 kids in todays lifestyle. think you could do some cool things if you turned this into a 2BR converted the orphan bedroom

I agree. I like this place and would consider it for our family, but two of my partner’s dealbreakers are central air and an en suite master bath. This unit also doesn’t have an obvious bathroom for guests to use. They either have to go through the “third bedroom” or use the main bathroom. I still like it though!
The unit looks nice but the strike against it is that it’s an inner courtyard unit, so every window looks right into someone else’s window. So much for privacy. Also, I don’t like decorative fireplaces – they seem phony. Lack of parking not surprising considering the neighborhood, but not at this price. Sounds like someone is trying to make a big profit that’s probably not deserved.

It has transferrable parking at 525 w oakdale. If you have a car and love this neighborhood you already know it is hell so you either buy in one of the rare buildings with parking or you resort to parking in a rental lot somewhere nearby OR, even better, why would you have a car here? With Uber and nearby zip cars, there’s no reason to have a car.
why would they update the appliances and keep those god awful cabinets, looks really cheap (despite the luxury appliances)
