Listed at $425,000, which is similar to the price for some 2/2s in the neighborhood, will the prestige and popularity of Crilly Court carry the day?

Usually, I like Old Town. I don’t see the appeal of this complex though. Red Fin shows a 2/2 a couple blocks north that costs less than this place.
My memory is a bit hazy but is this Crilly Court location the one that somehow held it’s value (actually appreciated a bit) during the great recession/while RE prices were still crashing?
I wouldn’t want to live next to a noisy parking lot gate to be honest…

Unless that deeded storage unit is 15X15 with windows, a view and a spa bathroom attached, I’m a little surprised by this price.

Yes. It never declined in value. Prices continue to go up in the complex.
My friend use to Airbnb his Crilly Court place. Everyone loved to be on Wells street, in the heart of old town. So, it could be a nice investment if you wanted an in town that was easy to rent. But Old Town probably will lose its charm soon with the construction.
Agree with Liz about the parking in that neighborhood. If you don’t have a dedicated space, good luck with finding something on the street, especially in winter. Start investing in some high-class “dibs” from a Michigan Avenue furniture store.

That’s a good point. With it’s own separate entrance it would be a good AirBnB unit. You’d have to run the numbers but $425 is still rich for a 1/1.

You’re right. It would be good for part-time rentals with that entrance right to the street.
But I wonder if the condo association would allow it? Most associations bigger than 3 units have put on restrictions. And especially in a building that has 90 units. There are simply more people to complain when there are more units.

Why would you have a car?

There are zipcars and uber in the neighborhood. No need to have a car if you live here.
Why would you have a car? Because of necessary commuting? Because of family you want to visit that is too far to practically Uber or use a Zip car? Because it’s extremely hard to get to anywhere outside of Chicago actually worth going without one? Because having one will always give you more freedom and options than not as long as you can afford it? So many potential reasons. And most people far younger than boomers have cars if they can help it, that’s a wacky thing to say.
The association does not allow airbnbs. Lack of parking doesn’t bother me for a one bedroom. Many people don’t own a car. I just think it’s overpriced for the finishes and size.
Sid V – It’s not all that difficult to get out of town, or even to many places within the town limits, without having a car. We do have some good public transportation options around here. But people in the income bracket for that part of town probably want to own a “luxury” model car also. In which case they should find a living space that provides for reliable parking.
