Sox Fans: The Cell and the Oldest Neighborhood In Chicago

You know who you are.  You like going to The Cell in Bridgeport because of those big parking lots that surround Comiskey Park.  It’s soooo much easier than getting to Wrigley.

And here’s a secret: the food is better at the Cell too.

American League fans unite.  You too can live near your beloved White Sox.  Only, I had a bit of trouble finding suitable condos near the park so you’ll have to settle for a single family home instead.

Alas, the closest I could get you was about a mile west, but that’s okay because you’ll drive and park there anyway.

Did you know that Bridgeport is the oldest neighborhood in Chicago?  (yes, older than “Old Town”).  Only it’s hard to tell when you drive through the neighborhood because none of it was landmarked so many of the old historic structures were either torn down or have been so altered that their historic features are no longer visible.

Too bad.  But Bridgeport is booming with new construction right now.

This nice little brick house looks fairly new:

Or perhaps you like a little more sophistication.  This house has recently been renovated by some flippers.  Looks like they did a gorgeous job with the renovation.

  1. Why the assumption that everyone drives everywhere all the time? I exclusively take the Red Line to Comiskey, couldn’t be more convenient unless the station basically emptied right into your seats.

Otherwise, enjoy the blog, I’ve been a lurker for a while. Cheers.

  2. David: I’ve taken the red line down there myself but have also driven. The red line is very convenient, as you point out.

But with those big parking lots there- lots of people drive. Maybe it’s mainly suburbanites!

  3. FYI: My parents own a nice townhome in Bridgeport, and they want to sell. Thier realtor told them, “oh, don’t worry, there aren’t any foreclosures in Bridgeport. Well, minimal research reveals the following:

There are 283 Bank-owned properties in area code 60616.

There are 567 Properties in “pre-foreclosure” in area code 60616

There are 142 properties that are in the auction phase in 60616

there are 26 resale properties and 46 for sale by owner properties in 60616.

    Area Code 60609

    675 in pre foreclosure

    208 are in auction

    394 are bank-owned

4 are for sale by owner

    25 are up for resale

So, whoever told them that there are no foreclosures in Bridgeport is either lying, stupid or doesn’t care.
