The 4-Bedroom French Provincial in Forest Glen: 6551 N. Ponchartrain
This 4-bedroom French Provincial home at6551 N. Ponchartrain in Forest Glen was built in 1938.
The listing says it has a “bridal stairway” and a unique front door peephole.
It is built on a 60×118 lot and has a side 2-car garage.
The house is within a few blocks of the Forest Preserve and the Edgebrook Metra stop for an easy downtown commute.
It also has central air and a basement.
However, there are no pictures of the kitchen or baths, and no description of either in the listing. There is, though, a picture of the bridal stairway.
Connie Aparcedo at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

Not only is there a picture of the bridal staircase, there is also a picture of the bride sporting her best orange flip flops. These aren’t real realtor photos are they? If so I would be embarrassed with my lack of cropping ability.
For the love of GOD! Spend $100 and repaint that teal room!
Heh, I like the ‘I’m on a schooner’ feel of the dining room photo.
Isn’t this Edgebrook? Forest Glen in the next metra stop south.
“Isn’t this Edgebrook? Forest Glen in the next metra stop south.”
i think so and one block or two north its wildwood
I love the “plantation shelters”
The lack of kitchen AND bathroom pix always leads me to suspect the worst.
Yeah, no pictures means ye olde tyme non-reno’d kitchen and baths. Which makes me wonder what justifies the price nearly doubling since 1994.
Someone has to pay for the spendthrift baby boomer’s retirement, Madeline. Might as well be a greater real estate fool, right?
seems overpriced.and i can’t believe they even painted the window frames that teal color.not *that* nice of a neighborhood for those high taxes.i’m just 8 blocks southwest of there and my taxes are around $3000.not nearly as exclusive an area, but still.
for that kind of money over there a person would be better going to *old* norwood park.you’ve got the metra stop right over there also.and closer to the expressway.
the taxes are suspect, why are they so high? wouldnt they have a senior freeze or a HOE that would lower that?
*i am assuming a oldtimer/granny owned this place because of taste of style throughout.
maybe sombody with time or the firefox plug-in can look up the taxes?
Ouch, there’s lots of animosity on the site re baby boomers. It is not all their fault. Look at starter homes now and the immodest housing expectations of Gens X and Y. When I think “condo foreclosure,” I think of the fresh-out-of-grad-school types who put nothing down yet felt they were entitled to $300K+ condos in the city — and equally entitled to walk away from them. I’m not a boomer, but what are we going to do? Eat them like the children in Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal”?

I’m more of the Soylent Green line of thinking.
i just drove by this place.very nice looking, but it has some serious roof issues(i don’t know if i can say that here, but anyone who drives past will notice it right off)the entire front roof shingles are completely cupped and bowed, sides of roof too.thats a pretty steep expense to start off with, and who knows if it has been leaking.and for how long.yikes.
Still $659,000.
Keepin’ the dream alive.
$599,000 I LOVE THIS HOUSE and it would totally suit my lifestyle, but I need a $120,000 down payment to afford it. GZ, CHUK – wanna lend me some dough? I”m good for the money…
