If it looks familiar, that’s because we chattered about it in 2015.

However, the house actually did sell in 2015, just a few months after we chattered about it.
But it’s now available again.
If you remember, it has unique features for a city house including a rare double lot measuring 52×124.6 which allows it to have that other rare city feature: the 5 car garage.
Thanks to the double lot, it also has nearly double the square footage of a typical single family home at 9050 square feet.
And for those who need a bathroom with each bedroom, this house has 7 baths and 2 half baths.
The kitchen has luxury stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops along with a 2-story breakfast area.
The second floor has 4 ensuite bedrooms along with a laundry room.
The lower level has a recreation room, a second laundry room and a nanny suite complete with a full kitchen.
It has 4 decks and a basketball court.
If you don’t want to walk up and down all the stairs, there is an elevator.
The listing says the house is in the Prescott school district.
The house has been reduced since it first came on the market in 2017. It’s now listed at the same price as the 2015 purchase.

Wow are those taxes cheap.
Well, it’s not my taste but it is a special property.
Double lot 5 car garage are big bonuses.
Those interior photos do not inspire me at all.
Starts with a limited qualified buyer pool.
And I’d suspect it gets more challenging to sell due to some unique finishes.
If you need over 9,000 square feet in the city, this place seems like a good choice. I wonder if the 5 car garage is counted in that square footage.
Nobody “needs” 9000 sqft

I didn’t think it was possible to hate everything about a house, but…
I hate everything about this house.
Taxes are so low because it’s still listed as a 6-flat apartment building and seemingly has multiple PINs…Don’t know why it takes so long for the assessor to change property types when units are combined. It was done by a real estate developer, though, so perhaps he knew how to work the system (although has since been bought by somebody else).
usually the people needing 9000 sq ft are buying compounds in Waco, not West Lakeview.
Ou don’t buy a 9000 sq ft home with a 5 car garage because you “need” it.
That’s a “want it” moment and clearly an ego purchase.
This looks like two separate houses from the front – not a good thing. There are so many better options out there than this place.

Ok my fellow cc’ers need some advice.
Has anyone ever seen a home with the furnace and water heater in the garage? Saw that on Sat and thought it was absurd. But quick check says it’s legal as long as pilot lights and burners are at least 18”off the ground. Evidently gas fumes are heavy and stay low.
But I’d think that some of the air being pushed into the house would be drawn from the room and that woLudwik be bad for air quality. Maybe I’m overthinking?

For $3 m, even $2.5 m, I wouldn’t buy in West Lakeview, and I love West Lakeview, lived there for years. For $1.2-1.5 m or so, sure. (I am not in that market, though.)
That said, there are $2.5-ish properties in the area that have sold recently, some without even being on the market for especially long, although generally it seems to take longer to find a buyer for these than for the more typical property in the area. My impression is, yes, that they are better options, this one is pretty weird.

I love how the dumbass Tribune writer called it “West Lincoln Park” in the 1st Tribune article. Probably got suckered by the realtor’s lies in the listing.
Looks like taxes more than doubled and finished all the review and appeals for 2017 tax year, so the second installment 2017 payment, due later this year, should be something like $36k or more. Obviously that increase is known at this point so totally dishonest to list the taxes at $20k for 2015 when they know they are ~+$40k for 2017. At list price the new taxes will be more than $50k a year.

It is one block north of Diversey so it’s technically Lakeview.
They wouldn’t be the first one to try and claim it’s in the more prestigious neighborhood when it’s not.

My electrician tried to tout its benefits…. I found it too odd and we passed.
What a great opportunity that was wasted, to put in a nice curved staircase in the front of the house. All that room to do that, with visions of flower buckets on the stairs, or pumpkins and instead cheap ass developer put in stairs I see in old two flats in Canaryville. And don’t even get me started on the carpet. Good luck, Jennifer. I’d get place some ads in the Chinese or Russian newspapers if I were you.

His rational was that since new air comes into the burner unit from outside it did not matter where it was located. His only benefits revolved around the ease of access to service the units.
My electrician is a large person. His experience is that they are usually hauled into a basement and tucked into the corner making service and repairs challenging.
In our PR house that is clearly the case. The units were placed really close to each other and backed into a tight corner of our basement. It has indeed been a challenge to service those units.

Anon – well said! If we did it like a drive up window so that he did not have to get out of the truck then I’d save so much money on repairs. Can’t charge me for a home call if you don’t even leave the van!
If you have the money to buy a $3 mln house, are you really worrying about which Chicago public school your kids will attend? I think not.
They’re probably hoping to sell this to Cubs player with a family.
