The Third Biggest Story of 2008: New Condo Towers Everywhere
2008 may go down as the year when downtown Chicago saw a glut of high rise condo units.
The list of buildings scheduled to be finished with construction and closing on units in the new year is pretty staggering. I’m putting a list here but I doubt it’s complete. If anyone has any other buildings/information- please pass it along.
Of course, several dozen other high rises are in some state of construction but are not scheduled to be completed until 2009 and beyond.
The buildings listed below either just started closings in December 2007 or will do so in 2008.
In the South Loop:
- The Vetro (611 S. Wells) – started closings
- Burnham Pointe (710 S. Clark)
- Library Tower (542 S. State)
- The Marquee (1454 S. Michigan) in January
- One Museum Park (1215 S. Praire)- tallest residential building in Chicago until Trump officially closes on condo units
In the Loop:
- Metropolitan Tower (310 S. Michigan)- started closings
- 6 N. Michigan
- MoMo (8 E. Randolph or 151 N. State- no one seems to know the exact address)
In Streeterville:
- 550 N. St. Clair
- ParkView (445 E. Illinois)
- 600 N. Lake Shore Drive
In the West Loop:
- Zen (225 S. Sangamon)- has started closings
- The Emerald (123 S. Green)
- Odyssey Lofts (775 W. Jackson)
Hi Sabrina,
What a list! I still feel like you are missing a lot of S Loop buildings. I suggest looking on the emporis website or skyscraper city.
would be nice to know how many units these represent… any easy way of doing that?
Streeterville Realtor: I looked on Emporis for the South Loop but I’m sure I’m missing a few. There are another bunch that won’t be completed until 2009 (Astoria Tower, The Lexington etc.) so you might be thinking of some of those.
But if anyone knows of others- please let me know.
1400 Museum Park in South Loop will start closings this coming February.
Thanks Stan. I knew there were some buildings in the South Loop that I missed on the list. I’m sure there is more than just 1400 Museum Park.
1400 Museum Park (address is 100 E. 14th Street) is one of those buildings that in 2005 had people camping out outside the sales center in order to buy a unit.
It should be interesting to see what happens when closings start.
Sabrina,
though I’m not one of those people who camped out outside the 1400 MP sales center, I did buy a 2/2 unit in the building 1.5 years ago and impatiently wait to move in around June. So, to me it will be very interesting to see what happens when closings start.
