Walk To Work From Your 2-Bedroom Condo: 125 S. Jefferson in the West Loop
This 2-bedroom unit at 125 S. Jefferson, in the Park Alexandria high rise, in the West Loop (or is it Loop? we always debate this…) is perfectly located for a quick commute to the office.
This unit is on the “curve” of the building and the living room has a wall of curving windows which faces northwest for sunset views.
It has hardwood floors in the main living area and the listing says there are 3 walk-in closets.
There is also a full-sized washer/dryer in the unit.
The kitchen has granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances.
Marsha Fuller at ProCasa Realty has the listing. See the pictures here.

- Currently listed for $377,900 (parking included)

Not sure I’d want to buy in a building that is leaning over like that.
^^ LOL
nice gary
It’s a nice commuting location, though it’s sort of in a no man’s land between the Loop (where I wouldn’t want to be on weekends) and the majority of the West Loop neighborhood. I say it’s definitely in the West Loop, though, even if it isn’t in the more residential area. I think the proper eastern boundary is the river.
That living room is nice, but I’d be worried about the amount of sun coming in late in the day. It’s also not clear where you’d put a TV. The view is great, though, and it would certainly be an excellent commute.
David:
I’ve got larger western view windows in my place. After a few years of dealing with a 5 degree variance between the living room & the other rooms, I’m getting these autosensing shades installed so they’ll drop in the mid-day / afternoon and then go back up at night & morning.
Beyond the uptick in not being blinded in the afternoon in the living room I’m hoping for a drop in electric bill as well.
Regardless of what the *official* boundaries are, this part of the city has waaaaaaay more in common with the Loop than the Woop. As such, to get to the good stuff you have to walk around some pretty sketchy scenery. Sure it’s safe, but that doesn’t mean it’s comfortable to walk around there.
As someone who used to spend many a weekend cooped up in the office, I can say there are few things more eerie than the Loop on the weekend. Saturday mornings always remind me of the first scene from Vanilla Sky where the T-man is running through an empty Times Square.
If there were about 15 more high-rise condos and 50-100 more restaurants/business (in other words a 500% increase in people and stuff), the Loop would rival any downtown area in the country. At some point, the Loop will be awesome. Just not now.
Anywho, this place seems a little overpriced to me. I would expect this to be closer to 300k than 400k.
*OT Bonus Round* Speaking of the Woop, if Lebron comes (it’s looking more and more like he won’t though), you might actually see the Madison/UC area turn into Wrigleyville. In fact, even I would consider getting a pad there to catch all the home games from.
Bland. In an area with the most amount of inventory in Chicago. Overpriced. Why buy here when I can buy a place equally as distant from downtown for 100k less in the South Loop? Equally as meh of a neighborhood
Off topic…sorry,
Does anyone know of any good real estate inspectors for a single family frame home?
“As someone who used to spend many a weekend cooped up in the office, I can say there are few things more eerie than the Loop on the weekend.”
I can attest to this. I live/work in the loop. I actually like it though. Feels like a post-apocalyptic zombie movie. Kind of awesome 🙂
I dunno, this is definitely in a dead area on the weekends (“a”, you have VERY strange tastes…I don’t know anyone who enjoys the loop on the weekend) but it’s still not too far away from Halsted. Unfortunately, you hit Halsted at the north edge of Greektown directly to the west…not my favorite location. One upside is the park across the street. It always looks like a fairly nice place when I drive by.
I live in this area, and I like it too. The less crowded streets make it easy to get around, and there are people – going to church or a wedding at St. Pats, playing with their dogs in the park, coming to and from union station… its no lincoln park, but that can be nice…(and much more convienent for driving anywhere/getting out of the city if necessary. I think this area appeals to people who work long hours and appreciate a short a commute… and going home for lunch- which I just did.
This area isn’t dead, there’s TONS of homeless wierdos hanging around Ogilvie Transportation Center and Union Station
Never a dull moment around there on the weekends, tons of interesting stuff and they will even get a cab for you whether you ask them to do so or not and then get all pissed off when you don’t give them money for opening a door on a cab that you could have very well opened yourself
Sonies, not sure if you’ve been to river north, old town, lincoln park, lakeview, uptown, bucktown, etc. lately… Also, tons of homeless weirdos…
yeah but they don’t hail cabs for you
“they will even get a cab for you whether you ask them to do so or not and then get all pissed off when you don’t give them money for opening a door on a cab that you could have very well opened yourself”
That’s pretty much true of the doorman at the four seasons.
gtski,
question, since you live here do you do most of the shopping on roosevelt? if so how is those stores on the weekend? is the target a “crap hole shoot yourself bang your head against the wall” like every other target on a Saturday?
the home depot on roosevelt is amazing… not too crowded, can always find someone to help. I think the target is better than elston, but still a busy store. I LOVE the whole foods on roosevelt (not crowded), although I do most of my shopping at the Dominicks on Halsted (which I also love because its not that crowded) or Peapod. There is nothing more delightful to me than driving down desplaines to roosevelt and thinking of my days on the northside.
See, Sabrina, this blog is affirming equality across class dividers after all!
“I think the target is better than elston, but still a busy store.”
Unless it’s 8AM, the Elston one sucks, especially with all the traffic around there these days, which is too bad b/c it’s right by me. Roosevelt one is better. I like the one on Peterson just east of Western best of the ones in the city I’ve been to.

I dont think i can remember weekend i didnt have to stop in a target. to save sanity i go 5 minutes after they open the doors. i would love to be able to go to one around 2 pm and not want to stab myself in my own liver.
“I like the one on Peterson just east of Western best of the ones in the city I’ve been to.”
go to the one at the brick yard before 11am, its like nobody in my hood wakes up before 10am. the store is clean and empty, and the workers/staff/cashiers are to tired and havent finished being hung over to give you attitude yet.
“That’s pretty much true of the doorman at the four seasons.”
I Laughed, loud 🙂
yeah, even when I lived in old town, I went down to roosevelt… it was faster to get to and way more enjoyable. Even if I have to go to costco, I will still head down to roosevelt for the target portion of the errands.
“I like the one on Peterson just east of Western best of the ones in the city I’ve been to.”
I like the 2 level one on Addison/Sacto, in the old Monkey Wards.
“I like the 2 level one on Addison/Sacto, in the old Monkey Wards”
i knocked a guys tooth out 3-4yrs ago during a fight on the bball court behind that one. went there after to get some gatorade, didnt like parking at that target.
“didnt like parking at that target.”
Park on the 2d level of the garage, use the footbridge. It’s usually a lot more mellow (and less of a mess) than the Elston one. We never use the surface lot.
Coming up on today’s episode of ‘Target Talk’….
I’ll attest that the Elston one is nuts. I was hoping that Roosevelt might draw some people away. Now they’re putting in a grocery section. I think I might starting going to the Addison/Sacromento one.
As to the traffic there, you just need to know the shortcuts and which direction to go.
“Park on the 2d level of the garage, use the footbridge. It’s usually a lot more mellow (and less of a mess) than the Elston one. We never use the surface lot.”
I do like it better than Elston but we’ve pretty much ruled out going to any Target at peak hours these days. I think I like Peterson b/c we go there more for entertainment, on the way back from dinner or something, and the crowds are not bad.
Target Talk!
I’m in Minneapolis for the week and saw a game at Target Field (beautiful facility), which is directly across the street from the Target Center.
You can’t throw a rock without hitting a Target around here. No Walmarts in sight!
Thanks gtski,
I will try that target next weekend!!!
do they still do the “market” the street before 90/94? i could get some fruit and veggies on the trip too!
the maxwell street one… yes, its more of a flea market than a farmers market though… just depends on what you are interested in!
Like Groove said, you gotta hit the Elston Target early when everyone is still sleeping in/it off. Plus if I had to drive Elston I wouldn’t go there, but I come via Logan Blvd so it isn’t bad.
Anon(tfo) you and I should go for a beer. I too drive to the addison target, park on the second level and use the footbridge. I’ve been at that target all hours of the day and its never been unmanageable. In fact I’m there nearly every other Saturday at 1 pm or so. Ill keep a look out for you.
“I can attest to this. I live/work in the loop. I actually like it though. Feels like a post-apocalyptic zombie movie. Kind of awesome”
What are you talking about? That Dunkin Donuts on Adams and Wells just went to being open 24 hours!
We don’t use the 12th St. Target and Dominick’s; we go to the ones in McKinley Park. Cheaper and better too.
I do use Syds at 12th and Jefferson for my lids and Italian knit shirts.
“What are you talking about? That Dunkin Donuts on Adams and Wells just went to being open 24 hours!”
There are other Dunkin Donuts in the loop that are open 24hrs and have been for years. I guess its okay if you like looking at drunks sleeping there. Not really a perk.
“and then get all pissed off when you don’t give them money for opening a door on a cab that you could have very well opened yourself”
Bring some brass knuckles and a stack of McDonald’s job applications and give them an app. If they start crap they just got theirs.
Every time they add food to a Target, I stop shopping at it because all the other sections are so reduced that either they stop carrying the product or they’re out of stock.
The Addison one is fine if you are not looking for a large section of furniture or bigger home goods.
I’m hoping the new one near Truman college takes pressure off Elston and Addison.
Barry, have fun. But, beware the Wal-Marts creep up on you.
Speaking of Target, the West Loop is going to be getting its own Target opening in 2012. The Chicago Journal just did a writeup on it. The location is going to be Jackson/Aberdeen/Van Buren. I’m not sure why they’re building it so close to the Roosevelt store, but that will make Target shopping even more convenient for West Loop folks.
“Anon(tfo) you and I should go for a beer. I too drive to the addison target, park on the second level and use the footbridge. I’ve been at that target all hours of the day and its never been unmanageable. In fact I’m there nearly every other Saturday at 1 pm or so. Ill keep a look out for you.”
1 pm is prime naptime, so we’re rarely there then. Usually b/t 10 and noon, either Sat or Sun, occasionally Saturday evening–which is, btw, the absolute best time as far as crowds go. Not that Target at 7 on Saturday is my idea of fun, but it’s uncrowded.
Re: The loop on a weekend
There is tons of stuff to do, and a lot of my friends now live down here as well or are moving to be closer to work. I admit that at first I had the same opinion but you just have to find people who live down here.
I loved the shops near TUrget on Roosevelt, but only went on weekday mornings when no one else was in the buildings.
I recall one morning I parked on the second level lot facing North into Amaliz only to see a pair of pasty white 300 lb mens butt cheeks full on smiling back at me. Scary. After that, I would park only in the interior lot facing south and never looked at that building again.
I always though this building was out of place…something about it was off. And if I am going to be on an upper floor with view, I don’t want it to be facing West. I can smell the exhaust from the highway even with sealed windows.
NO.
