Want New in Streeterville? A Rehabbed 2-Bedroom at 211 E. Ohio
This 2-bedroom in the Grand Ohio at 211 E. Ohio in Streeterville just came on the market.
The Grand Ohio was built in 1984 as apartments. It’s a full amenity building with 595 units, an indoor pool, a basketball court, tennis courts and an exercise room along with a parking garage.
It was converted into condos in 1999.
Most of the units don’t have washer/dryer in the unit, although there is a unique loft floor on the 5th floor that has them in the unit and a smattering of other units have it.
Apparently, the building now also allows you to put an all-in-one in (the washer/dryer combo).
This unit has had a “custom rehab” and now has light grey wood laminate flooring, contemporary lighting and custom closets.
The kitchen has quartz counter tops, Whirlpool stainless steel appliances, glass and Carrara marble backsplash and under-cabinet lighting.
The bathrooms have Carrara marble countertops and vessel sinks.
There’s a custom shoe closet and wardrobe lighting in the master bedroom.
It has wall unit cooling, rare washer/dryer in the unit and parking is $29,000 extra.
At $453,000 (including the parking) in a prime Streeterville location near restaurants, shops and the Mag Mile, is this a deal?
Shruti Srivastava at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

I’m not sure I would show the prison yard tennis courts if I were the listing agent. Is there a guard tower?
Ugh. Seeing those same awful grey cabinets with the pulls placed at all different angles is incredibly irritating. Why do people suddenly like this style? What is with the ugly wood floors in every “remodeled” condo? Why is everyone putting in white counter tops? The ones in this place are especially appalling since they are marble. Have fun maintaining those. At least use quartz. I don’t really understand the love of quartz these days either, but at least it’s easier to maintain than marble.
lol, jenny is a difficult one to please. i actually have the same handle pulls in my kitchen, but I like it. Agreed on the marble counter-tops. I’ve got white marble counter-tops in my bathroom, and it has gotten a bit discolored/yellowed.
I do not like this unit
That fake wood looking tile is freakin awful IMO
agree on the white countertops, big time
coin laundry is LOL
Not a fan of the microtile backsplashes
cabinets looks dull or cheap or something
This is one of the nicer (possibly the nicest?) unit I’ve seen for list in this building. The assessments are incredibly reasonable and include quite a bit, especially if you like to work out, swim, play tennis. They also just put a massive TV in their lobby that’s essentially a digital billboard.
As someone who works across the street and looks directly at this building 5 days a week for the last 6 years, I can say that I’ve seen my fair share of memorable things happen in front of it:
-An employee from Nail Perfection (one of the many storefronts) burning documents on the curb of Ohio St. Yes. Burning documents in the day time. I guess their paper shredder was broken?
-A group of basic Lolla girls come out of the building, pop a champaign bottle, chug half of it (all while presumably snapchatting/instagramming), and then shattering it on the sidewalk after missing the garbage can toss. No attempt to clean up, leave that to someone else, right? #nofilter #livelifelove
-A completely buck-ass-naked overweight black woman sauntering down Ohio screaming obscenities at passerbys. It took 4 police cars and one brave officer to finally apprehend her (post-tasering). I hope Northwestern beefed up the security in their psych unit after that.
-Countless young asian couples (going to Gyu-Kaku BBQ) taking 10+ minutes to parallel park cars that are worth 2x-3x my annual salary. Last month, on my way back from lunch I helped one couple park their Bentley out of pity.
-3 occasions where the sheriff and other officers entered the building with a battering-ram. I think this is a last resort to serve eviction papers to non-responsive tenants.
The 7/11 on the corner attracts all sorts of vagrants, panhandlers, and just downright uncomfortable situations. I avoid it like the plague. The sewer opening on the northeast corner of Ohio & St. Clair is a dumping ground for some horrendous smelling trash juice/grease either from Dunkin or Burrito Beach. It stinks to high heaven on those 75+ degree days.
That being said, the boozy Taco Bell they just put in should spur massive price appreciation here. Buy now or be priced out forever. Think outside the bun, guys.
Also I have to LOL at the “surround sound in living room” when the TV would be best viewed from the dining room table it looks like… haha
“The sewer opening on the northeast corner of Ohio & St. Clair is a dumping ground for some horrendous smelling trash juice/grease either from Dunkin or Burrito Beach.”
Gotta love our combined sewers! That *could* just be a low flow area, and the smell could be from stagnant residential sewage.
“the “surround sound in living room” when the TV would be best viewed from the dining room table”
Also the speakers are perpendicular to each other.
“lol, jenny is a difficult one to please. i actually have the same handle pulls in my kitchen, but I like it. Agreed on the marble counter-tops. I’ve got white marble counter-tops in my bathroom, and it has gotten a bit discolored/yellowed.”
I guess I just get annoyed when homes are remodeled based on what’s trendy as opposed to what the owner actually likes. As for the handles, why not have them all vertical or all horizontal?
“with the pulls placed at all different angles is incredibly irritating.”
what would you prefer here? this is the correct way to do it. you’re not going to place the pulls horizontal on a door. your other option is to use knobs.
Hmm. Maybe it would look weird too if they were all horizontal. I’m not a huge fan of knobs either.
Here’s a kitchen with all horizontal pulls and it doesn’t look weird: https://euroluxeinteriors.com/products/kitchens/dogma-by-arrital.html
high pile carpeting in your kitchen? madness!
“Here’s a kitchen with all horizontal pulls and it doesn’t look weird”
It may not look weird, but if those are side-hinged doors, they would function weird.
“Here’s a kitchen with all horizontal pulls”
the cabinets in the island are all drawers and my guess is that all of those lower cabinets on the back wall are pull out drawers for stacking pots, etc. btw, who the hell puts plush carpet in a kitchen.
I think the unit looks great !!! I have been in this building on occasion and can tell you the amenities are great !! The door men are super friendly, and the neighborhood is outstanding !!! Good luck selling the unit !!!
What do people think of 1313 N Ritchie Court? I don’t think folks have ever chattered about the building. The apartments seem like a good deal, especially compared to Streeterville condos like today’s feature unit. Here is one of the places for sale at 1313: https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sale/3844729_zpid/400000-900000_price/1471-3311_mp/1_pnd/globalrelevanceex_sort/41.907303,-87.624564,41.905071,-87.627997_rect/17_zm/
“coin laundry is LOL”
It doesn’t have coin laundry. There’s a 6×4 laundry space.
“A completely buck-ass-naked overweight black woman sauntering down Ohio screaming obscenities at passerbys. It took 4 police cars and one brave officer to finally apprehend her (post-tasering). I hope Northwestern beefed up the security in their psych unit after that.”
I used to work at NMH as an RN. She’s a regular, though normally she wore sagging jogging pants sans undies. Picture is burned into my brain.
As I digress……my friend rented in the building. It was quiet and had a very nice dog run area.
@jenny “with the pulls placed at all different angles is incredibly irritating.”
You made it sound like they weren’t straight. I’m not a fan of those long pulls (prefer knobs myself), but that’s the best way I can think of to do them.
“It doesn’t have coin laundry. There’s a 6×4 laundry space.”
Check picture 13, it shows a coin laundry room. This one has pictured in unit too, but then why show the coin laundry room? To show that if you got lice or something you could wash all your clothes at once in the building?
Even though I have a European size (apartment size) Miele washer and dryer in my condo, I use the building washers pretty often. It allows me to get a ton of laundry done all at once or, during the summer, to avoid heating up my apartment. I also use the jumbo commercial washer to wash my comforters. In other words, having a nice building laundry is a nice perk for some people.
As far as the door pulls, the vertical ones are placed in the wrong part of the door. They should be higher, so that they are centered on the horizontal axis. That’s how mine are, and they look nice.
For a mid rise building, wouldn’t Mcclurg Ct be a nicer place in the same location?
This will always be an apartment building. They never should have converted it.
