Unique Loop 3-Bedroom Duplex Penthouse Is Still Available: 6 E. Monroe

We last chattered about this 3-bedroom duplex penthouse in The Mentor Building at 6 E. Monroe in the Loop in August 2012.

See our prior chatter here.

At that time, it was listed as a short sale and was on the market for $225,100 under the 2008 price at $599,000.

It never sold and was recently re-listed on the market.

However, it’s no longer listed as a short sale in the public listing and it is now price $31,000 higher at $630,000.

Remember this kitchen?  No standard dark wood cabinets for this unit.

It has cherry wood mode cabinets, Miele appliances and granite counter tops.

The unit is duplex up and has vaulted ceilings and skylights on the second level.

All three bedrooms are also on the second floor.

It has north, east and south views.

The unit has in-unit washer/dryer and central air. Parking is available across the street at 8 W. Monroe for $30,000.

What price will it take to sell this unit in 2013?

Jenna Smith at Redfin still has the listing. See more pictures here.

  1. This is a great looking unit, and convenient for anyone working downtown and looking for a really fast commute. Not a neighborhood I’m interested in though. I’m betting this goes to a corporation looking to house their executives close to the office.

  2. This place tempts me. We’re looking for a 3 bedroom+ place with character, good space, good walkability, access to public transport, and preferably a decent neighborhood elementary school: and it ticks all of those boxes.

Agree it’s not really a neighborhood, so it seems counter-intuitive for a young family… but giving it further thought millennium park is your playground, you have great access to all the cultural institutions, the neighborhood elementary school is one of the best…

    Hmm… maybe worth a look.

They won’t pay this much. Presidential Towers is a hell of a lot cheaper.

  6. My husband and I viewed this unit: It had a very awkward layout, a very narrow spiral staircase is the only access to the upper level (unless you exit the unit and take the common area elevator or stairway); the balcony is very small and narrow; the exterior corridors were dark and the carpeting hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, which to me indicated a lack of building or condo board oversight. We thought it was very overpriced.
