  1. Contemporary is a niche market in this city. Looks cold and commercial. By January the pictures will look current.

  2. Well I definitely fall into the contemporary niche, and while I am not crazy about the Yellow I could live with it. (Or paint it) On the other hand I wouldn’t be crazy about living across the street from the cemetery…

  3. I agree with the “cold and commercial” part, but that’s what a good decorator is for. Putting a hard red leather couch on top of a hardwood floor in an already uncomfortable feeling room isn’t exactly the usual recipe for warmth. Properly decorated, this place would probably be stunning, and the cemetary doesn’t bother me either – at least the neighbors are quiet!

  4. I would *love* to be across the street from a cemetery. Preserved green space for perpetuity. And because people are superstitious, I could probably get a deal on it. 🙂

  5. Hey, cemetaries are great! People are just dying to get in there!

  6. I don’t understand buyers not wanting to live next to a cemetery. Quiet greenspace that’ll never be developed? It sounds perfect to me.

  8. Industrial feel done right. Graceland is also one of Chicago’s oldest (and prettiest, IMO) cemeteries, so living across from it wouldn’t bother me at all. I can understand why it would make someone uncomfortable though, given its reputation as being “haunted.”

  9. I’m not at all surprised that the for sale pictures have snow in them, considering their asking price. If they don’t drop it, and they’ve been pretty stubborn for a long time, it still won’t be sold when the snow melts again this coming winter. Rather than having that cheesy paint credit on a $600,000 townhouse, why not just paint over that horrible yellow wall?

  10. I’ve seen this listed before; I fall into the niche that likes contemporary as well. One thing that strikes me as odd with the furniture layout – is that the dining room table directly in front of the front door? Or do those doors lead out to a juliet balcony?

  11. Of course someone named “pilsen resident” wouldn’t mind living next to a cemetary. Only having a cemetary nearby is definitely a trade-up from pilsen.

  12. I love contemporary and I love modern myself, but glass blocks? black floors? painted steel handrails? I’m sorry but that was modern in 1985!

  13. By the way…how could an award winning architect lay out a bathroom where you’ve got to squish your legs between the thrown and the unneccesary bidet! What would you do if you got a ‘wide stance’?
