It seemed to have it all including 1o-foot ceilings, stainless steel and granite in the kitchen, central air, in-unit washer dryer and a parking space.

  1. I guess it’s good that property’s moving. . .

. . . but I really hate this building, and ones like it. Greedy developers turn what should have been 3 or 4 decent-sized units into. . . 8???

Even the 2000 price seems high for this. All these rooms that are not even as wide as the ceiling is tall tell me someone’s compensating for something. And for a parking space (no garage).

HD nailed it last time: this should be a rental appartment. (And with, now, 4 owners in 11.5 years, well, it pretty much is– just with property tax, maintenance, and assessments included).

  2. I will never understand the logic behind buying something that should not only be rental, but would have about half or less of the monthly costs if rented. Not to mention no huge down payment for a rental. I guess it made sense to buy these places when they were appreciating 10-20% annually, but those days aren’t coming back for a long time. Meanwhile, the only thing buyers will be owning is a huge liability.

Me too but they already were in the suspected tool category once I read the hood was Wicker Park so in this case the Bon Jour sign is more of a confirmation.

  9. I feel similarly about names on the wall in kids rooms. I never got my name on the wall when i was growing up…why should stupid Madison get hers? Is she that much better than me!! mom?

What’s with girls’ names with “son” in them? Just seems wrong to me.

  11. Like everything anon, it’s just a trend (Madison, Addison…what else? I’m blanking…).
CH! LOL. I did a large monogram for my son; future little B’s will also get something special – no worries.

Is that bathtub actually behind/in the shower? Not a shower/tub combo, but shower first, then the tub? How strange. I’m assuming to save space, yet be able to say there’s a stand alone shower? Huh.

  12. Madison is not a trendy name AFAIK. I’ve never met an Addison but I would laugh my arse off if I did.

Oh and one of the few Madison’s I’ve known was a guy, so..

  13. (What’s AFAIK?)
No, not trendy for “us,” but very trendy for younger children, i.e., what kids are being named these days, as opposed to the names we interact with as adults. I don’t know know ANY Madisons or Addisons my age, but I know two Madisons and two Addisons that are under the age of 3. Likewise, as a adult, I know 100 Michelle’s and Jennifer’s, but not one such name in the toddler set.

  14. Madison is a very trendy baby name:
4th in popularity (for girls) for 2008
    5th in 2007
    3rd for 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006
    2nd for 2001, 2002
    3rd for 2000

Also popular – Emma and Stella – seems like their are giant letters over the cribs of many listings (fleeing the city presumably).

More like alderman who try to maintain a number of “affordable units” in the hood.

  16. “(What’s AFAIK?)”

    As far as I know.

Yeah, realize it’s a trend, but think it’s dumb. Addison is a male name; Madison is a family name. Girls shouldn’t be given male names and no one should get madeup names (Apple, eg).

And, if one insists on it, please be kind enough to give the kid a normal middle (or, better, first) name to accompany your slavery to trend. So that the kid has the option of using some part of their given name when they almost-inevitably think their “unique” name is dumb. [/off-topic rant].

Well people name their kids after cars, why not beers? I’d name one of my kids Delirium, why the hell not?

    I met someone last weekend who’s name was ‘Mercedes’… so now I know of 3 Mercedes that aren’t strippers… What… the… @#$!

Because if you get a kid like me who doesn’t like their novelty name they would beat the crap out of you once physically able to for making their life more difficult and burdening them with a novelty name. Thats why.

  22. “I met someone last weekend who’s name was ‘Mercedes’… so now I know of 3 Mercedes”

    1. Common Spanish name.
    2. Cars are named after a girl nick-named Mercedes, daughter of an early major dealer of Daimler autos. So the girl came first.

  23. ARGH. Keeps eating my posts.

I hear your rant anon – for me, the names that drive me bonkers are names that aren’t unique, but parents try to make them so by giving them unique spellings, e.g., Madisyn, Rylee, etc.

This blog has some good ones:

I really hope the names gretchen and bertha stay in the early 1900’s where they belong.

Unfortunately know some Gretchens… Always thought it was a better name for a dachshund. Old names – mostly good. Creative spellings – Ugh, can’t deal.

  28. And speaking of creative spellings, I actually just ran across a post where a woman likes the name “Cadence,” but wants to spell it Kadince, Kadance, or Kadence. WTH?

  29. “All white girls”

I used Spanish advisedly. I’ve known many Spaniards (and Argentines, etc.) who would think you a fool for thinking they were anything but white, just b/c they speak Spanish.

But, obviously, you’ve met them and I haven’t so I defer to your (low) opinion of their parents’ decsion making.

  31. I actually have a shower / tub combo similar to that (my glass goes to the ceiling to seal in moisture). Very handy – I like the stand up shower aspect and very easy to maintain / clean. Re-caulking was a pain in the butt.

You mean she likes the *word* cadence and wants to misspell it to use it as a name.

If you’re going to use a name like Chastity, Charity, Prudence or Hope (anyone? anyone?), at least spell it right.

  35. You are correct; she likes the *word* Cadence and wants to use it as a name, but would prefer to spell it “uniquely.” In other words, yes, she wants to completely butcher a word and use it to torture her child.
