1890s Bridgeport Workman’s Cottage Sells: 3554 S. Union
We last chattered about this vintage 2-bedroom brick workman’s cottage at 3554 S. Union in Bridgeport in July 2009.
See our July chatter and pictures here.
Shortly thereafter, it went under contract and sold in August 2009 after being reduced by $89,000.
It had hardwood floors, an updated kitchen and bath and a lush backyard with a garage.
Joe Kunkel at Baird and Warner had the listing.

Even if I were going the IKEA route I wouldn’t choose that kitchen (or anything remotely close), but it’s a cute little place.
Not a screaming deal but a good price when taking into account the tax credit.
agreed, cute little place. green space is also highly attractive.
neighborhood would kill this one for me. unless you’re a die hard sox fan, does anyone want to live this close to U.S. Cellular?
For history buffs though, this place is a hop, skip and a jump away from what’s left (read: not much) of the old stockyards that Upton Sinclair describes in ‘The Jungle’. (Pershing/S. Halsted/47th St/S. Ashland)
Bridgeport is a pretty tight-knit community. Not to much going on there though unless you go to Shaller’s Pub. There are some good restaurants and the commute downtown is a breeze.
The hood is of course less walkable than most northside hoods but has the essentials. Sucks that the Jewel closed leaving only Dominicks tho 🙁 Also there are at least 5 bars but I wouldnt go to any to find a date.
Dinner parties in the 7 foot wide dining room are gonna be, how shall I say…intimate.
Thats ok, it keeps you from having to feed your obese relatives or inlaws… They stay in the yard!
So then what is a 3 br 3ba practically new construction townhome with 2 car garage worth located right around the block?
Buyer didn’t get a bargain, but not bad. Neat little place.
3343 S Carpenter is a 3/1 built in 1889 currently listed for 151k currently. No interior pics but states that it’s tenant occupied for $1,200 mtm lease. Assuming the inside isn’t trashed and there are just no interior pics because it is rented I’d say the purchaser of 3554 S Union paid a bit too much. Like 100k.
3343 S Carpenter relisted on 2/22/11 with an ask price of 136k.
3343 S Carpenter cut it’s ask price to $99,980 on 4/4/2011.
