Metropolitan Tower, the conversion of the former office building at 310 S. Michigan near Millennium Park has been offering incentives for several months. They’re trying to move the remaining units in the building as closings are set to begin in early 2008. Now, they’re offering free upgrades on all finished units (not quite sure how […]

Bucktown’s Love Affair With Modern Architecture

Bucktown seems to be one of the few city neighborhood that has embraced the modern architectural style.  It doesn’t seem out of place to see concrete and glass homes next to stately brick rowhouses in that neighborhood.  Question is, how well do they sell compared to the workers cottages and Victorians in that neighborhood? 2070 N. Oakley: […]

Coolest Crib: I want my own private pool!

Every once in awhile a property comes along that is just plain cool.  This is just such a property.  It’s also brilliantly marketed by Jennifer Ames at Coldwell Banker.  There is no clutter seen in any of the photos.  And the nighttime pictures of the pool highlight the drama.  This is what you do if […]

Dearborn Park Townhouses in the South Loop: Now Hot?

It used to be that if you were in Printers Row, you didn’t go much south of there into the South Loop.  There was no reason to.  You might have wandered east, towards the Lake and Grant Park.  But you never went south. But just south of the old train station at Dearborn and Polk […]

Vintage Gold Coast Building Shows the Tale of the Housing Boom

Vintage buildings with parking are always prized, especially in the Gold Coast, where parking is a premium.  It is the parking and location which make The Chandler at 1429 N. Dearborn so popular. Built in 1890, the four story, 8 unit building usually sells quickly.  Units in the building have seen a steady rise in […]

New River North Condo Building: James Place

Anyone know anything about the James Place condominiums that are allegedly going to be built at 100 W. Huron in River North?  I was walking by Huron and Clark the other day and noticed their banner on some fences that surround a parking lot on that corner. How many stories is it?  I don’t know. […]

One Museum Park Offering New Incentives to Agents

Thanks to the Tipster who sent in this ad that went out to agents for One Museum Park and 1400 Museum Park.  What it means is that the agent who brings her client to either of these two buildings and who writes a contract, gets paid NOW rather than later, at the close. And for agents that […]

What’s Wrong with Erie on the Park?

If you go on one of the Architectural Foundation boat tours, they will inevitably mention Lucien Lagrange’s River North “masterpiece”, Erie on the Park, at 510 W. Erie.  Built in 2002, the building has become a signature building on the far west side of River North with its criss-cross design that is similar in feel to […]

Third Quarter Downtown Condo Numbers Show Slowing Sales

It’s not a surprise that the third quarter numbers out on Chicago’s downtown condo market show sales have slowed dramatically.  Crain’s reports that condo and townhomes sales fell 34% to 869 units compared to a year ago.  According to a report by the Appraisal Research Counselors: “Prospective buyers are currently uncomfortable about the market, feel […]
