8 Years and One Foreclosure Later, a 2/2 at 708 W. Barry in Lakeview Returns to Crib Chatter
This 2-bedroom at 708 W. Barry in Lakeview just came on the market.
If it looks familiar, then you’ve been reading this blog a long time as we actually chattered about it (and a second unit in the building) in 2008.
You can see our March 2008 chatter here.
And the July 2008 chatter here.
Both times we debated the height of the ceilings as this building has five stories which, apparently, isn’t common in this part of Lakeview.
The last time the second floor unit was listed, it was priced at $489,900.
This unit didn’t actually sell in 2008. A lis pendens foreclosure was filed in 2009 and the bank took it back in 2010.
It sold in 2011 for just $290,000 from the bank.
The building was constructed in 2005 with 8 units and has an elevator.
The units have the finishes from that era. The kitchen has cherry cabinets, stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops.
This is a picture from the 2008 listing but the kitchen looks the same except it now has a backsplash.
This property has central air, washer/dryer in the unit and rare 2-car parking.
It’s back on the market, this time for $420,000.
Will it sell again in the $400,000s like it did in 2005?
Jeanine Sekera at Coldwell Banker has the listing. See the pictures here.

What a fantastic pile of shit
I don’t understand the fascination with the huge master suites but calling that a master bedroom is a joke
This is a 1 bed w/den rental
i dont think the price is out of the realm for a 2/2 in the area. the 2nd “bedroom” is not really a bedroom but i would not be shocked to see this close at $399k.
Perfect place for a window-hater.
It’s under peak, so it *must* be a steal!
this is so perfectly terrible, i don’t even know where to start.
Great location, nice big open floor plan. Perfect for a family just starting out, small room for a crib/bunk beds. Local CPS school is great and included in real estate taxes, so that’s a bonus. The only downside is the riff-raff punk rockers associated with the “Alley” that hangout at the dunkin donuts at the corner of Clark and Belmont; those kids are such a nuisance, smoking cigarettes and mohawk hair, leather jackets. This area could use a good, strong dose of gentrification.
where have you been HD, both the alley and the punkin donuts are now closed to be replaced with suburbanish new developments
Good location, finishes are fine for the money, would be an OK unit if it had a real MBR. The kitchen seems a bit small perhaps.
“where have you been HD, both the alley and the punkin donuts are now closed to be replaced with suburbanish new developments”
he’s doing his Bizarro HD Shtick again
“The only downside is the riff-raff punk rockers associated with the “Alley” that hangout at the dunkin donuts at the corner of Clark and Belmont; those kids are such a nuisance, smoking cigarettes and mohawk hair, leather jackets. This area could use a good, strong dose of gentrification.”
I’m assuming sarcasm since this area is well established. Regardless, this is too far from that location for the overflow to be an issue as that crowd sticks to Belmont.
As others have noted the size of the second bedroom is smaller than is typical for circa 2005 construction. I personally don’t like a layout where you need to walk by the bedrooms to get to the living room/kitchen area. Is this on the ground floor?
“he’s doing his Bizarro HD Shtick again”
yeah sounds like he is about to sell his house and move again
Per Redfin:
“Hot Home: There is a 70% chance this home will sell in the next 9 days – go tour it soon.”
“Hot Home” means nothing anymore. Redfin must have changed their algorithm because there are a lot of hot homes these days, way more than there used to be, and many don’t sell.
CONTINGENT
obviously none of you lived or were familiar with Clark and Belmont in the 80’s and 90’s. all you’ve ever known is gentrified Belmont and Clark.
I miss Medusa’s.
