A 1924 Vintage 2-Bedroom With Lake Views in Edgewater: 6334 N. Sheridan

6334 N Sheridan

This 2-bedroom in the Rockefeller-McCormick Building at 6334 N. Sheridan in Edgewater came on the market in September 2015.

Built in 1924, the building was part of the building boom along Lake Michigan that extended from the South Shore to the far north neighborhoods of Edgewater and Rogers Park. It has 42 units, many with lake views.

This unit has east and west exposures with some lake views.

At 1700 square feet, it has the features of vintage apartments of this era including a foyer, a separate dining room and a wood burning fireplace.

The kitchen has wood cabinets and some stainless steel appliances.

While it doesn’t have central air, but window units, it does have in-unit washer/dryer which is rare for a building of this time period.

There’s no parking with the unit.

At just $269,000, is this affordable living along the lake in Chicago?

Tanya Hamilton at Jameson Sotheby’s has the listing. See the pictures here.

  1. I don’t know this neighborhood, but this looks like an excellent price for a pretty good sized unit. How is the condo association’s health?

  2. This is a bargain basement price for a condo overlooking Lake Michigan. The neighborhood isn’t trendy but it is still a safe neighborhood. Loyola University is in the same neighborhood. All the way at about 7000 North right by the Howard el stop the area is a bit sketchy but nowhere as bad as it was 30 years ago. On Sheridan road there are a bunch of hospitals for the indigent and mentally ill.

  3. This is a great building in a great neighborhood. It is sited right on the curve on Sheridan Road, and has a parking lot. The HOA is reasonable for the space- it includes heat, and this is, of course, an elevator building.

The nabe might not be “trendy”, but it is safe, attractive, friendly, and convenient, with many amenities, including restaurants, grocery stores- get your specialty cheeses and organic beans at the Whole Foods at Glenlake & Broadway, than walk a block to Granville and pick up paper products at Aldi’s. There is a Jewel in the 5300 block Broadway, and a Mariano’s at Sheridan & Foster. There are parks, beaches, a new library branch, a number of banks and dry cleaners, and you can use either the Loyola or Granville el stop. Edgewater is my favorite of all the north side neighborhoods.

It’s a beautiful building. However, while $269K might seem like a gift price for a condo in Lakeview or even Uptown, but it is probably as high as a seller dare go in this moderate to middle income area. This building has a number of 1 bed units that are heavily rental.
