A 4-Bedroom River North Art Deco Inspired 2-Story Penthouse: 33 W. Ontario

This 4-bedroom penthouse in Millennium Centre at 33 W. Ontario in River North came on the market in September 2020.

Built in 2003, Millennium Centre is 60 stories and has 364 units along with a parking garage.

It’s a full amenity building with an outdoor pool, grills and decks, an exercise room and a doorman.

It also has townhouses built on top of the parking garage.

This penthouse occupies the top two floors and has 180 degree north and west views.

The listing says it was renovated in 2017 and is “art deco-inspired.”

The listing also says it has been completely reimagined by LUXE Haus Interiors (and can be sold furnished).

There’s 26 foot floor-to-ceiling windows in the family room.

It has an eat-in kitchen on the second floor with white cabinets and luxury appliances that has a wall of windows that makes it seem like a sunroom as it overlooks the private 700 square foot terrace.

No, there’s no pergola but it’s on the 60th floor so there are usually rules about structures and what is allowed due to wind/weather when you get that high up.

3 of the bedrooms are en suite.

The listing says all 4 bedrooms are on the main floor (with the kitchen/dining room and living room on the second floor) but the floor plan really only shows 3 bedrooms on the main floor.

The primary suite has a large bathroom as well as a walk-in-closet with a window. Was the closet originally the fourth bedroom?

The unit has a few unique features including a drop down television hidden in the ceiling of the primary bedroom and a “secret” door (it’s the built-in bookcase) in the library/bedroom on the main floor that leads to the bathroom.

I recommend watching the video for more on both of these features.

The unit has central air, washer/dryer in the unit (where is it? In one of the bathrooms?) and 3 deeded garage parking spaces are included in the price.

Originally listed in September 2020 at $2.88 million, it has been reduced to $2.5 million.

At 3659 square feet, is this a deal at this price?

Amir Fouad at @Properties has the listing. See the pictures, floor plan and video (a must see) here.

  1. It’s a fun unit but you have to be OK being the most expensive (not sure how much the townhomes go for) unit in the building

  2. it looks like Harlequin Art Deco done poorly

Nice views and layout, really going to be a unique buyer for the finishes and pricepoint in this building

  3. Wonderful unit and great outdoor space. Is the ass-fee so high because of the 2 floors, sqft and heat?

JohnnyV finishes are easy to replace and change the feel of a place. Layout is harder and way more expensive to change. And views yeah can’t *really change.

  4. How would you describe this decor? Kardashian wanna-be?

  5. KK that is spot on. I was thinking the interior style is definitely not deco. It’s Kardash-deco? Kardeco? Awful regardless, but there is a market for it. Have to assume buyer would want it. But the deal killer is buying the most expensive unit in a mostly bland lotsa-rentals building. I’d spend my 2.5 on a better pedigree and forego the glitz. But I realize that’s not everyone.

  6. I like the layout, the views and the private outdoor space but I cannot get over the fact that a cash buyer pays $7K/mo to live here . . .and I am guessing not full time.

Definitely would skip on buying the furniture LOL….This pad loks like something the Rose family would have lived in before moving to Schitt’s Creek. I have also never understood the allure of a black toilet – – presumably if you live here you have a maid….so just curious, how do you know the black bath fixtures are being cleaned regularly? Genuinely curious ha ha.

  7. I like the unit much more than I thought I would. However, I’ve always been fascinated with the townhomes at this address. Something about having a townhome above street level (away from some of the craziness) and a pool right outside your door. If memory serves me correct, the townhome owners also pull into the parking garage and then have a garage inside that which leads them to their unit.

The buyer of this place will likely have F-U money and the 7k/mo is just another bill that their accountant manages.

Forget the black toilet, what’s it like to use that silver toilet? It looks like it’d be…chilly.

  10. If you can look beyond the funky decor, you’ll also notice that the floorplan is really funky.
How is this listed as a 4 bedroom? I only see two. Rooms with french doors opening up to the main living spaces don’t count as bedrooms at this price point IMO.

  11. I think I’d like it better if all the bedrooms were on one level and the kitchen/dining/living rooms were on the other level, but overall, it’s fantastic.

It also looks disturbingly like a prison toilet.

  12. What is the point of have two tvs right next to each other? This the second time I have seen this.

The large sprayer in the kitchen looks unnecessarily complicated.

It’s too hard to look beyond all the owner’s junk. I’d prefer it better vacant with digital furniture. Is the typewriter even functional?

your opinion doesn’t really matter when classifying bedrooms. why does it matter if it has French doors. it’s technically a bedroom.

In that case, can you explain the phenomena of dens with closets? Why does the word “den” exist at all?

I was trying hard to figure out what aspects of the unit (as opposed to the furnishings) can be categorized as “Art Deco inspired”. The doors to the den-bed-denroom-dens, fine, aaaaand … ?? Color scheme? Some of the wallpaper???

“two tvs right next to each other?”

With as many tvs as there are inside, I was shocked to not find a set up for one outside.

an owner can use a room for whatever purpose they want. but for legal clarification and marketing purposes, if it has a closet and required light and ventilation, it’s technically a bedroom. French doors don’t matter. If they had a barn door would that count. these two rooms even have ensuite baths.

  17. This is an interesting unit and a true penthouse. The outdoor space is pretty great (though I wish the wall were lower), and I like some of the design touches. I’m trying to ignore the furniture, which isn’t my taste, but that’s not a real issue since I’d bring my own. Three deeded parking spaces included in this neighborhood is nothing to sniff at, either.

For the price, it might be a decent deal considering everything you get. The one issue for me is lack of a true lake view. Now that I’ve been living up on the 50th floor of the Hancock with unobstructed and expansive lake views, I don’t know if I could pay so much to give that up. It’s really a difference maker for me, but probably not so much for most people.

HOA and taxes seem on the high side, but probably not an issue for someone who can afford a place like this one. I don’t know much about the building itself.

Sports. Watch 2 games at the same time, flip the sound between when one goes to commercial.
