A Luxury Townhouse in the “Old” Gold Coast

Recently, I highlighted a townhouse in the South Loop in what many consider to be the “new” Gold Coast.

I thought I’d see what you can get for your money in the “old” Gold Coast on the North Side.  As it turns out, quite a bit.

Sutton Place is an interesting townhouse gated community in the Gold Coast that was built in 1978.

  1. Is that white carpet in the kitchen? Can’t be… could it?

I think it is the same white tile that is in the foyer but without the grey inlay. The flash on the camera makes it hard to tell

Now I like this much better than the South Loop. I guess I am just biased. Not a fan of most of the South Loop.

  4. I would have to go with the South Loop Town home. Its like comparing West Egg to East Egg in the Great Gatsby though.

Less Congested from the “Snotty Very Pretentious” Old Money neighbors. Better access to Lake Shore & Expressway. Better Access to my Yacht at Burnham Harbor. Walking distance to Art Museum, Grant Park, Millennium Park, Field Museum, Shed Aquarium, Planetarium and my tailgates over at Soldier Field.

New Construction with the Old Charm Feeling…(2.1 HEATED GARAGE.) Roof Top w/Better Views for Entertaining & Firework show from Navy Pier every Wednesday/Saturdays during Summer…

  5. There is definitely something to be said for the less congestion that is found in the South Loop. There is also that nice bike path that takes you under Lake Shore Drive and right to the lake near the Museum Campus.

  6. As a neighbor to Sutton Place, I simply abhor them from an urban design and aesthetic standpoint. I can understand the desire for “peace-and-quiet”, but a gated community in the heart of a dense urban neighborhood really bothers me. Not the right place for it. There are ways to acheive some privacy without obliterating any aesthetic considerations in re: how the buildings interact with the street and sidewalk. If the whole neighborhood were gated townhome developments, there wouldn’t be an urban neighborhood worth living in in the first place.
