A New Yorker’s Dream Loft in the River North Gallery District: 215 W. Illinois
This 3-bedroom authentic loft in the Anchor Lofts at 215 W. Illinois in River North came on the market in February 2020.
Built in 1923, the Anchor Lofts has 17 lofts and an attached garage. It was converted in the 1980s and does not have door staff or other amenities.
This listing says parking is available for rent from the HOA.
This loft has an open floor plan with southern and western exposures along with exposed wood beams and tall ceilings.
The listing calls this loft a “true New Yorker’s dream” and likens it to a SoHo or West Village artist loft.
The kitchen has white cabinets with black cabinets on the island, along with marble counter tops and luxury appliances including a Wolf gas range, glass door refrigerator and separate wine fridge.
The primary bedroom has an ample sitting area and custom storage along with an en suite bath.
It appears that the sitting room may be the second bedroom.
There’s a third bedroom but it doesn’t appear to include a window (according to the floorplan).
This loft has central air, washer/dryer in the unit and parking is available in the garage.
Originally listed in February 2020 at $1.2 million, it has been reduced $350,000 to $850,000.
Are River North Gallery District lofts like SoHo?

I think staging this would have helped
4C is available for $50k less and is set up as a 2Br.
Is RN that much in the toilet?
Who is this New Yorker and why are their dreams so sad?
The powerstrip will haunt me forever.
Great copy-writing. New Yorker’s dream!? Meaning some trendy/odd semi-industrial finishes. Big open space, minimal storage, no view, high priced, and ideal for a high earning single person?
Calling it 3 bedrooms is crazy. Yes, the “primary” bedroom could fairly easily be divided back to two, but it’s still a decent amount of work. But as Sabrina points out, “bedroom” #3 is the small space with no windows or closet that’s a barn-door’s separation from the kitchen; Call it an office, den, flex space, yoga room or something, but not a bedroom. By this realtor’s definition, you could call it a 4 bedroom since you could put up some more walls in the living room to carve out another room!
And, the “primary bath”: Couldn’t they at least patch the tiles?!!
Noted this one the last time we talked about this building:

“New Yorker’s dream”
Have to assume that means a loft with neither a bathtub, nor a toilet, in the main room.
4&5C are selling under $400/sf for a good amount of space and fairly updated/high end finishes (4C is preferable IMO). Would make a killer home for empty nesters or a PaT
I’ve always liked this area going back 25 years ago and this does seem to be a steal. Is it crime or something else absolutely crushing the value?
“The powerstrip will haunt me forever.”
racking brain as to what this was used for.
hahaha the duct taped multiple power strip config in the living room killed me (it was probably for a projector to watch da football)
as well as the dedicated cubby for bears/booze life, jeez
that guest bathroom needs big time work
overall this place has some serious potential, LOL @ a 350k price cut
HAWT
You can’t unsee that power strip.
But no comments about the windowless black room and what it’s for?…..
Looks more like a fancy architect’s office than a place to live. Is it a New Yorker’s dream to have every window look directly into fire escapes and brick walls? Perhaps.
How hard is it to clean before the photographer shows up? A quick swiffer and wipe down the damn appliances!!! Sheesh. This place makes me very sad. Some manchild getting a divorce prolly.
“no comments about the windowless black room and what it’s for?…..”
It’s the “third” “bedroom”. In a place that currently has one bedroom.
Recently re-listed, asking $899k.
$835k ask LOL
At least they removed the powerstrip
Owner is getting absolutely murdered
